Lubasha Visnjic: öèòàòàOver at Maddog’s board, Dee Dee has posted this; Weaver’s biological mother comes to Chicago to meet her. She was an upper-middle class teen in Iowa when Kerry was born. Starley: Ìàìà-ïàïà Êýððè...

Lubasha Visnjic: öèòàòàfrom Erforums Unfortunately, we don’t have much else. The guest roles (apart from Weaver’s mother, previously spoiled as being in this episode) are small and don’t seem to be anvil-ish: a woman suffering from early onset Alzheimer’s; the woman’s busy daughter; a woman who appears to be in pain but could be a drug seeker. [On second thought, I suppose the woman and her busy daughter *could* possibly be an anvil for Weaver and her mother, but let’s hope not.] Director: Not Noah.

Weaver’s outside, wearing an uncertain expression on her face. She walks across the street towards a hotel, slushing her way through the snow. She walks into the hotel, past the front desk clerk, gets in the elevator, and goes up to the 4th floor. She works her way to Room 415 and knocks on the door, saying, “Helen?” No answer. She knocks again.

Lubasha Visnjic: 2 pages later, we’re in Act 1. Susan and Sam are in the ambulance bay, talking about the weather. Susan said she thought she heard it was supposed to be sunny and warmer today. Sam catches a snowflake on her glove and asks Susan if she knew that snowflakes are less than half an inch across. Susan says no. Sam asks if she knows why snowflakes are white. She goes on to give Susan the reason: “The complex structure of snow crystals results in tiny countless surfaces from which visible light is efficiently reflected. What little sunlight is absorbed, is absorbed uniformly over the wavelengths of visible light thus giving snow its white appearance”. Susan: “What is wrong with you?” Heh. Cut to Susan and Sam inside the hospital. Sam explains that Alex had a school report and she and Luka got into it. They pass an 18 yo ice skater, who asks how much longer she has to wait. We can see that the ice skater’s lower left leg is a bloody mess. Sam looks at it and says, “Wow, that’s nasty”. The ice skater explains that one of the other skaters ripped into her. Susan asks if it happened in the morning, and the IS explains that it happened in Skating Club, which goes from 5:30 to 7. Sam tells her they’ll check her in in a few minutes. As Susan and Sam walk away, Susan says, “Winter”. Cut to Abby and Neela. Neela asks if Abby’s relationship with Jake is already an “every night kind of thing”. Abby says it’s just for Jake’s surgical rotation. Dubenko’s working Jake pretty hard and her place is closer to the hospital. A note says, “What a pathetic line of reasoning; Neela sees through it”. Neela responds, “Oh, I see, sleeping over is basically a convenience”. Pages later, Weaver and Susan are talking over each other. Weaver gives Abby some instructions on a patient, while Susan tells Neela and Jane that Weaver works 2 shifts a month to keep her skills fresh and to stay in touch with the department’s needs. Neela quietly whispers to Jane, “Our lucky day” as Sam tells Weaver about the ice skater. Weaver asks Frank to get a wheelchair. He tells her there’s a trauma coming in. She tells Neela to work with Carter on a patient, gives Susan another patient, and tells Abby and Jane to follow her. Neela tells Carter that it must be awkward for Susan to be the Chief and having Weaver back. Carter doesn’t agree – when Weaver works in the ER, she takes charge and covers everything. Susan loves it because it’s like a day off for her. Frank says that isn’t true for the rest of them, though.

Lubasha Visnjic: Cut to Weaver, Abby, and Jane with the incoming trauma. It’s a 40 yo “screwdriver guy”. The paramedic explains there was a fight at a birthday party. I don’t know how this fits in, but on the next page, Jane says she’s a blank slate when it comes to Pick’s disease. She can’t remember which year she studied the disease. She’s not even sure if she was told the disease is like Alzheimer’s or not. “Man, talk about your memory loss”. Pratt’s got an “Oh God” expression on his face. Cut back to Screwdriver Guy. Sam’s assisting. The patient’s drunk and about to use some foul language. Sam says, “Nice language”. Abby and Weaver start to work on the patient. Pages later, Weaver asks Helen (she addresses her as Ms. Williams) if everything’s OK and if she wanted to talk about something. She says she’s fine and doesn’t want to waste Weaver’s time anymore. There’s a pause as Weaver takes note of Helen calling Weaver by her first name. Weaver says OK, then walks away. She bumps into Haleh and asks her to look through their old records for “Sharon” Williams’s last hospital visit. Cut to Pratt, Jane and Chuny with their Pick’s disease patient, Mrs. Devon, who is 60. Her 30 yo daughter, Charlotte, is with her. Mrs. Devon has 2 deep lacs on her hand. Pratt asks Mrs. Devon to wiggle her fingers. She rudely asks him if he can wiggle his fingers. Pratt asks her to give it a try, but she mimics his words right back at him. Then she turns to her daughter and says they have to get dinner ready because their guests will be there soon. Charlotte tells her Mom it’s OK, then explains to Pratt and Jane that at 5:30 AM, she heard her Mom crashing around in the kitchen. At this point, Mrs. Devon leans directly into Jane’s face and asks her for the bathroom. Jane’s slightly freaked and backs away. Pratt turns to Chuny, so Chuny tells Mrs. Devon to go with her. Mrs. Devon repeats Chuny’s words. As they leave, Charlotte explains that there isn’t a dinner party. Her Mom thought she was cutting meat but she was actually cutting her own hand. Pratt says they’ll take care of it, then asks her when the symptoms started. She says it started 2 years ago. They’ve been able to keep her at home, but now she has 3 kids and doesn’t know what to do. Jane and Pratt exchange looks. Cut to Weaver, Pratt, Jane and Frank at the Admit Desk. Weaver asks for labs on a patient with syncope, and Frank tells her they’re still waiting for the results. Pages later, Haleh tells Weaver that she asked a patient (maybe Helen) about something, but the patient got nervous and asked to leave AMA. Weaver asks if the patient wants to leave now, and Haleh nods. Weaver looks at Abby and Jake and walks off. Abby says to Jake, “Gathering supplies?” He says, with his head in his hands, “I know…I know…”

Lubasha Visnjic: Cut to Weaver and Haleh, who have entered a trauma room. One of the beds is empty. Weaver asks the ice skater if she saw the patient leave. The ice skater says the patient bolted. Susan walks up and starts to ask Weaver a question, but Weaver quickly walks away. Cut to Weaver in the ambulance bay. She can see “Helen Kingsley” walking away and calls out to her. Weaver addresses her as Ms. Williams and asks her to wait – her test results haven’t come back yet. Helen says she doesn’t need the results. Weaver tells her she won’t have to wait much longer. Pages later, a note says, “Even if he [Jake] knew, he doesn’t get it out before…” Weaver gives out the answer: “First, to break up any adhesions. Second, if there is diaphragmatic injury, you could be in the abdominal cavity and chest tubes don’t work very well in the stomach”. Susan says they can handle it now. Weaver looks at her and realizes she [Weaver] was harsh. Weaver says, “Yes, I’m sure you can”. As she leaves, Sam wisecracks, “That was fun”. Susan looks at Abby and Jake and asks them why Weaver’s so pissed at them. Dubenko says, “Man, and I thought I knew how to pimp”. Cut to Carter and Neela with a Mr. Bulowski and wife. They’re both in their 40s and are “…well-fed Americans”. Carter asks Mrs. B about her neck pain. She says she flew in from Cleveland the day before to help her brother move. She was lifting a chair. Mr. B mentions that she had an MRI last year – she had 3 slipped disks in her neck. Carter asks Neela for any neuro findings, but Neela says motory and sensory are intact. Mr. B mentions that his wife’s pain goes down her arm. Neela tells him they’ll administer morphine, but Mrs. B says it makes her sick to her stomach. Mr. B says Demerol’s the only thing that works. Weaver approaches – she only heard the tail end of the conversation. Carter suggests Toradol, but Mrs. B’s allergic. Mr. B insists on Demerol. Carter tells him they’ll be right back. Once they’re away, Neela explains to Weaver that Mrs. B has “neck pain with radiculopathy consistent with herniated disk syndrome”. Carter mentions that Mrs. B is allergic to Toradol – she should have just told them she’s a Demerol addict. Neela argues that they don’t have an objective test for pain and they should err on the side of believing her.

Lubasha Visnjic: Much later, Mr. B says he and his wife are concerned. Neela says she understands, but the shot they gave her was somewhat effective. Carter interrupts and speaks to Neela in private. Neela explains that Mrs. B said she was still in pain. Carter asks if she explained that she’d be giving Demerol. Neela gives him a look, so he asks if Mrs. B suckered her into administering a second shot. Neela says, “One could look at it that way…” As they walk toward the Admit Desk… We see a calmer Weaver, back in her lab coat. Jerry and Susan are there, too. Weaver tells Jerry she’s back, but Jerry didn’t even know she was gone. Susan follows Weaver down the hall. 2 pages later, Weaver walks into a trauma room, where Abby and Jake are laughing about something as they both suture the lacs on Screwdriver Guy’s back. A note says, “Just as before…” They both see Weaver. Abby says, “Kerry” while Jake says, “Dr. Weaver”. Weaver says she’s looking for an obnoxious bald guy who needs suturing. Jake explains he was there. Abby finishes, saying they put him next door. Weaver looks through the window at the adjacent room, where she sees the 40 yo OG, who has a scalp lac. OG sees her and starts screaming about his head hurting. No one’s given him any aspirin and he’s been moved 6 times. WTH is going on? To make matter worse, another trauma patient gets put into his room. He’s not happy. Weaver closes the blinds and turns to Abby and Jake. She says, “Mr. Screwdriver, nice to see you again”. Jake tells Weaver that he takes full responsibility for SG still taking up space in the ER. Weaver: “You don’t think Dr. Dubenko deserves just a soupcon of that?” A note says, “Abby’s look: Did Weaver just say soupcon?” 2 pages later, Weaver assigns Mr. & Mrs. B to Ray, who (I think) has just started his shift. She explains that they’re well-fed and well-drugged. She wants him to review the chart and “unceremoniously” get their a$$es out of the ER. Weaver walks away, where she sees Jane talking to Charlotte about nursing facilities for her mother. Charlotte thanks her and walks away. Weaver walks up, and Jane explains what she was doing. Weaver asks if Pratt is even remotely involved with the case. Jane tells her that they’re swamped because a few docs didn’t show up. Pratt’s busy but he is involved with the case and doing much better. A note says, “Weaver’s look: Jane probably shouldn’t have said that last part”. Much later, we’re in Act 4, in a restaurant ladies’ room. Weaver’s leaning against the wall and it looks as if she’s trying to catch her breath. She goes to the sink to wash her hands and looks at herself in the mirror.

Lubasha Visnjic: Cut to Weaver back at the table. She’s struggling to focus as Helen’s showing her some family photos. Their dinner’s already been served for some time. Helen’s is partially eaten; Weaver barely touched hers. Helen shows her a picture of her Uncle Jackson, who was the black sheep of the family. He loved to steal cars. Weaver asks for a picture of her father. Helen says she has one – she didn’t know whether she should show it to Weaver. She shows Weaver the photo: “14 yo Helen, nine months pregnant, standing with 15 yo Cody Boone, the two of them leaning against a ’53 Chevy. The two of them smiling”. Helen says that when she was sent away to Indiana, Cody drove all the way up to see her; he didn’t even have a driver’s license. Pages later, Helen tells Weaver, “Jesus doesn’t exclude you, Kerry. You exclude yourself.” Kerry tells her she does that willingly. There’s silence, then Helen says the hotel’s nearby and she wants to walk. Helen walks off. Weaver’s left behind. Cut to Carter, Neela and Ray. Ray says Mr. & Mrs. B won’t leave. He called Cleveland Memorial and found out Mrs B shows up there 2x a week asking for Demerol. She’s on their “turkey file”. Neela argues that they won’t cure her habit by denying her drugs today. He wants her to kick them out. He thinks Weaver’s going to be mad at him. Ray and Neela look at Carter for his decision. He tells them, “Watch and learn”. Carter walks up to Mrs. B and says he heard she was still in pain. She says she feels better, but she thinks she needs another shot. Ray reminds her she’s already had 2. Carter holds his hand up to stop Ray from saying more. Carter explains to Mrs. B that when she uses Demerol regularly, as he thinks she does, it doesn’t work well and she can become dependent on it. Mr. B asks if Carter’s saying his wife’s a druggie. Mrs. B says she doesn’t think they know what real pain is. Neela doesn’t think that’s fair. Mr. B asks what Neela knows about being fair. Does she think it’s fair that his wife has that kind of pain? Neela said she’d administer another shot and then never came back. Carter says, “Mr. Bulowski”. He shoves Carter and tells him he wasn’t talking to him. Ray tells Jerry to call Security. Mr. B’s in Neela’s face now, asking her if she likes stringing people along. Carter steps in to protect Neela and tells Mr. B he needs to calm down. He says, “The hell I do”. He throws a punch. “Carter blocks it like a pro, instinctively throws one back and connects. Sh*t, that hurts. And it didn’t knock him down so Carter now tackles the guy, forcing him onto the bed.” Ray’s trying to diffuse the situation, but Mrs. B climbs on Carter’s back and starts pummelling him. Ray grabs her and pulls her off, but she grabs a bedpan in the meantime and thwacks Ray right in the nose. Ray’s all “Owww…”, and Mrs. B goes back to hitting Carter. Neela grabs a bedpan from the next bed, ready to thwack Mrs. B, then says, “Oh, my God, what am I doing?” She drops the bedpan as 2 security guards wade on in.

Lubasha Visnjic: Jerry, Frank, and Sam are watching this from the Admit Desk. Weaver arrives, looks at the terrible scene, and asks who’s winning. Heh. Sam tells her Neela was about to hit Mrs. B with a bedpan. Jerry says he always wanted to see something like that. A note says, “This is the old Weaver here: a throwaway line”. Weaver tells Jerry, “Hard to let go of a dream, isn’t it?” She asks if the fight’s in control. Frank says yes. Then he says he thought Weaver was gone for the day. She says, “Almost”. Cut to Jane and Mrs. Devon, who’s in a wheelchair. She’s folding towels on her lap as she asks Jane if they have enough of them. Jane says she thinks they’ll have plenty. Pratt walks by and asks about Charlotte. Jane explains that she had to pick her kids up. Pratt sees Mrs. Devon folding towels and asks Jane what she’s doing. Mrs. Devon asks if they checked on the roast. Jane says the roast is fine. Then Jane explains to Pratt that Mrs. Devon’s folding napkins for the dinner party. She explains that she read that she shouldn’t play into the patient’s delusions, but she doesn’t get the point of that in this case. Does he? Pratt looks around and sees Weaver down the hall. She looks at them. Pratt asks Jane if she can handle Mrs. Devon. She says yes. Ïîêà âñ¸. ÀÀÀÀ, Ëóêè êàæèñü âîîáùå íå áóäåò. Îäíà ìàìà Êåððè! íó è...ÿ ñâîáîäíà îò ýòîé ñåðèè.
