Lubasha Visnjic: Ïîëíûå ñïîéëåðû íà àíãëèéñêîì. From Mrs Vhttp://mrsviw.blogspot.com/ ************************************************************* Teaser: Sam tells Luka that she was going to tell him (about moving out). She says she doesn’t want to hurt him, but she needs time alone to think things out. She grabs her coat and purse. Luka asks her where she’s going, and she says she’s looking for a new apartment on her way to work. Luka says, “So that’s it, we don’t talk about this?” She replies, “Never seems to do us any good”. She leaves. Cut to Abby running to catch the El train. Two businesswomen named Drew and Erika hear her asking them to hold the door, but they don’t. The doors close, but Abby manages to jam her hand in the door, causing it to open again. As she gets on, she sarcastically thanks them for holding the door for her. We see Neela’s on board, and she says, “Good morning”. Seems it isn’t a good morning for Abby – she was up all night finishing a paper on paint ball injuries. Neela guesses that the paper’s for Morris. Abby wants to know if Morris said anything about it. Neela says no, and mentions that Morris has her doing a paper on adolescent asthma. Abby guesses that Morris is going to be listed as the first author. She’s right. They hear the 2 women laughing – they seem to be whispering about Abby and Neela. Abby says to them, “Can I help you?” One woman asks where Abby got her shoes. The second woman says they look comfortable. The women pretend to be sincere about what they’re saying while Abby and Neela look down at their shoes. One of the women says that the shoes match the backpack. Neela and Abby look at each other – it’s hard to be fashionable when they’re hardly getting any sleep and are up to their armpits in body fluids. Abby tells Neela to ignore them – they’re “obviously on a bulimia high”. Neela can’t believe how rude those women were to Abby. Abby says they were rude to Neela, too, since she’s the one with the backpack. Neela defends her choice, saying she can’t put her books in a handbag. All 4 get out, with Abby and Neela trailing behind. One of the rude women catches her heel in something and falls down. Neela thinks they should make sure she’s OK, but Abby doesn’t seem to have any intention of helping them. Neela goes back to check. The woman tells her that she can’t stand, so Neela tells her not to move. Neela grabs her ankle, and the woman tells Neela not to touch her. Neela explains that she’s a doctor. The women share a look and say they want a second opinion. Neela turns to Abby and says, “Dr. Lockhart, would you care to give another opinion?” Abby replies, “Sure—your ankle’s broken and you’re a bitch. And you might want to consider some new shoes”. End of teaser.

Lubasha Visnjic: Somewhere in Act 1: I only have the end of Luka and Jerry’s conversation. Luka says, “Yeah, why?” Jerry replies, “Think he might have died”. As Luka moves to take the phone call, Morris sidles up to the board with some interns. He tells them that he’s going to show them how he likes things done. He sees Neela, Abby and Ray and tells them that what he’s about to say applies to them, too, because he’ll be implementing some changes. Neela says, “I’d like to stick an implement in his eye”. Ray asks her to pick a number from 1 to 10. Neela says 7. Abby says 4. At this point, Sam enters with a pregnant woman on a gurney. The woman, Claire, is 24 years old and 9 months pregnant. She’s described as an earth mother. Ray tells Neela and Abby they were both close – the number was six. He tells Neela that she gets to choose between 2 interns: Munson and Babinski. Abby tells them to wait a sec, but Neela goes ahead and chooses Babinski. We get the bullet on Claire: she was rear-ended at moderate velocity. She wasn’t wearing her seatbelt and now complains of abdominal pain. Sam wants to know which one of them will take the patient. Ray will and asks Jane to join him: “I trust you, girl. Don’t let me down”. Jane breaks away from Morris’s tutorial to join Ray. Luka seems to be stuck on the phone as Sam heads off with Ray and Jane. Sam asks Claire why she wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, and Claire says she thought it would harm her baby. Ray tells her that she thought wrong. Claire’s having contractions and is breathing right through them, controlled. Sam, who’s being assisted by a new, young nurse named Inez, is looking at the fetal monitor and tells them that Claire’s definitely having contractions. Ray examines Claire and tells her that he doesn’t think she’s bleeding internally. Inez notes that Claire’s underwear is wet, and Jane mentions that it’s premature rupture of the membranes. Claire asks if that’s bad. Ray tells her that it isn’t, but she’ll probably give birth today. She says she wanted a home birth, and Ray tells her that he thinks it’s best if she stays in the ER. We find out that Claire will be giving birth to her second child. Sam asks if Claire wants her to call her hubby, but Claire says she doesn’t have one. She should call her friend, Toni, instead. Luka enters and gets the bullet from Ray. He gives out a few orders, then asks Sam if she has a minute. She says she doesn’t and lists all the things she has to do. Luka looks at Inez, wondering if she can help Sam. Sam mentions that she’s helping Inez “get the lay of the land”. He asks if she can see him when she’s finished. She agrees and mentions that it might be awhile before she can do that. He says he’ll be there and heads out. Ray can sense the tension between Luka and Sam and tries to hide it from the newbies. Ray welcomes Inez to County, and she thanks him. Then Ray addresses Claire, telling her that they’ll move her upstairs (to OB?) before she can get comfortable. She doesn’t think she’ll be comfortable for several more hours. Ray and Jane step away. Ray asks Jane what she’ll do next, and she guesses that she should do a bimanual exam. He tells her that she shouldn’t do it before the ultrasound. She wants to know why. He explains that they should rule out previa before they do an exam. He also says that the most important thing she should remember is that if she doesn’t get it, fake it. There’s no time to ask a lot of questions and patients don’t like to see her scratching her head. Ray asks her to get some Nitrazine paper. She doesn’t know what that is, but Ray gestures to her to get going, so she does. Jane doesn’t know what she’s looking for and doesn’t seem to be able to find it in any of the carts in the hallway, so she goes to the drug lockup. Abby enters to get some meds, and Jane asks her about the Nitrazine paper. Abby says, “You didn’t ask him?” Jane says, “He said if I didn’t know something…” Abby interrupts and tells her that the #1 rule is that if she doesn’t know something, she should ask. That’s what they’re there for. She’s not going to be able to learn this stuff on her own. Abby gives her the paper and moves away before Jane can ask her another question.

Lubasha Visnjic: Jane’s in the hallway now and sees Neela with Babinski. She asks Neela if she could tell her what she’s supposed to do with the paper. Neela say she can’t help right now, and also tells her that if she doesn’t know how to do something…Jane interrupts with, “I know, fake it”. Neela says, “What? Oh God, no. Of course not.” She explains that if Jane doesn’t know something, she should look it up herself. If someone gives her the answer, she’ll forget it 5 minutes later. If she reads about it, the info’ll stick. Her primary responsibility is to educate herself because no one’s going to do it for her. Neela leaves, and Jane’s just standing there, still not knowing what to do with the paper. Cut to Abby with Munson, looking at an x-ray. Abby tells him her name, but he says he already knows. A note says, “This dude is really odd”. Abby asks him if he has any questions. He says no. She thinks that’s great and asks him if he’s ready to present. He says, “I’ll let you know”. Abby says, “Okay…Can I make a suggestion?” 2 pages later, Chuny asks Pratt if he can get on the MICN – some paramedics need him to pronounce a GSW in the field. He says sure. As he moves off with Chuny, Abby turns back to Munson, who is having a hard time changing the battery on his otoscope. Malik enters with a patient for Abby. The paramedic gives her the bullet: the patient, whose name they don’t know, is about 10 and was found unconscious at a mall. He’s hypotensive despite being given treatment in the field, and his mental status was “waxing and waning” en route. Abby tells Munson to go with her. They walk up to the gurney, and Abby introduces herself to the kid. The kid says something, but Abby can’t make it out. Abby asks the paramedic if the kid was alone. The paramedic says that he was with his friends, but they left when the paramedics arrived. Munson notes that the kid’s sats are low. Abby asks him what he thinks he should do next. He says a few things, and she asks if there’s anything else he should do. After the third time she asks him about his treatment plan, he guesses that he should call next of kin. Abby lists all the tests that need to be taken. Munson feels dejected. Abby tells him that he’ll get the hang of it. He says that he knows. A note says, “Off Abby—this guy is a dick”. Cut to Pratt talking to the paramedics on the MICN as Luka does paperwork nearby.

Lubasha Visnjic: 2 pages later and we’re in Act 2. Ray and Jane are examining Claire. Ray says he doesn’t see evidence of placental abruption. Pratt enters. A note says that even though he’s affected by seeing his father, he tries to shake it off. Claire wants to know if Ray just gave her some good news. He says that he did, and explains that trauma can sometimes cause the placenta to separate from the uterus. This didn’t happen in her case. Ray starts to introduce Pratt but Pratt interrupts, telling Ray that he’s going to need a trauma room soon. He asks how they’re doing. Claire says she doesn’t know about him, but she’s having contractions. Jane holds up a forcep with a paper strip and declares that nitrazine is positive. Sam explains that that means her water did break. Ray and Pratt look at the screen – they’re very concerned. Claire asks what’s going on, and Ray tells her that her baby is in breech position, which could complicate matters. Claire’s concerned, so Pratt tells her that OB will give them their best advice. Jane calls Ray and gestures for him to look at the speculum. Claire mentions that her pregnancy is no different from her last one. The baby’s active, though. Sam gives her some words of encouragement. A note says that whatever Ray saw in the speculum catches him off-guard. He asks Pratt to take a look. Claire asks if there’s anything wrong. Pratt looks into the speculum and we switch to… Speculum cam. Two little feet are coming out of the cervix. Ray tells Claire that it looks like she delivered the baby’s feet. Claire asks if that’s OK, then tells them that she had a friend who delivered breech and the baby came out just fine. Pratt tells someone to call OB and get them down to the ER. Sam tells Claire not to worry – they’re going to take care of her and the baby. Claire tells Sam that it’s not really her baby. Cut to Chuny escorting Toni over to Luka. Toni says that someone called and said that Claire was in an accident. Luka tells her that Claire’s uninjured. Toni’s relieved, then asks about the baby. Luka asks if she’s a friend of the family. Toni explains that Claire’s a “gestational surrogate”. She’s been living with Toni and her husband, Rob, for the last 6 weeks. Luka asks if Claire’s having Toni’s child. Toni says yes and explains that they had IVF and the embryo was implanted in Claire. Toni asks again about the baby, and Luka says that he can’t tell her without Claire’s consent. Toni argues that she’s the intended parent of the baby, but Luka won’t tell her; he says sorry. Toni says that Claire and her are best friends – Claire would want to see her. As they near the room, Sam walks out to grab some supplies. Luka introduces Toni to Sam. Sam says they spoke on the phone and tells her to go in – Claire’s been asking for her. Sam holds the door open for Toni. Luka asks how Claire’s doing, and Sam says she’s good. He gives her a look, so she says, “When I get a chance, OK?” He says yeah.

Lubasha Visnjic: Sam re-enters the room, and we see that Claire and Toni are genuinely happy to see each other. Toni says she was worried, and Claire says she’s fine. Toni tells Claire that she told her that she shouldn’t drive; she offered to drive Claire around. Malik enters, looking for some charcoal. He sees Pratt and tells him there’s a guy in the waiting room looking for him. Pratt snaps at Malik and says he knows. Claire bears down through another contraction, and Ray and Sam react. Toni asks if she’s OK, and she nods. Toni asks Ray if she’s in labor, and Ray says yes. Toni asks if they’re going to stop the contractions because the baby isn’t due for another week. Ray explains that at 39 weeks, the baby is more than ready to come out. Sam mentions that the baby’s feet are already sticking out. Toni knows that the baby’s turned the wrong way. Claire says the baby’s fine. Toni asks Ray if they’re going to do a C-section. Ray looks at Pratt for an answer. Sam jumps in and says it may not be necessary. Ray says they’re waiting for OB. Pratt tells Ray to find him once OB arrives, then tells Inez to follow him. Inez doesn’t know what to do, so Sam tells her to go – she’ll stay with Claire. Inez leaves. Claire congratulates Toni at this point and tells her she’s going to be a Mom today. Pratt walks to Admit. Neela (with intern in tow) is about to ask him if he can help them but he interrupts and tells her to find Morris instead. Pratt leaves in search of Charlie. Neela turns to her intern and gives him a sympathetic look. She assures him that he made a good catch, then asks him to present the next patient. He tells her about a patient with a calcaneal fracture and warns her that the patient screamed at him about the amount of time she’s had to wait. Neela takes the chart and heads over to the patient. It’s Drew, the woman from the El! The woman says, “Oh, God. Can this day get any worse?” Neela forces a smile. Cut to Pratt putting on a trauma gown as he walks through the waiting room. Inez is with him. Charlie stands when he sees Pratt and calls him by his first name. Pratt says he doesn’t have time to talk right now. He keeps walking, so Charlie follows him. Charlie says it looks like he’s busy. Pratt insists he is and asks Charlie what he wants. Charlie says he doesn’t know – what was Pratt looking for when he came looking for him? Pratt says he was looking for nothing. He guesses he just wanted to see for himself. Cut to the three of them in the ambulance bay. A note says neither Charlie nor Pratt know the rules to this game. Charlie says, “So how do we do this?” Pratt tells him that they don’t and he’s sorry he bothered Charlie.

Lubasha Visnjic: Pages later, Ray enters Claire’s room to find Coburn working on her. Claire says she doesn’t understand why they can’t just flip the baby around from the outside. Coburn explains that it doesn’t work after her water breaks. Sam adds that it also won’t work because she’s already delivered the baby’s knees. Claire asks for Toni, and Ray tells her that Toni’s calling her husband on the phone. Coburn asks Ray if he found Pratt yet, and Ray says that Pratt’s working on another patient next door. Coburn says that Claire’s going to need a C-section. Claire says she doesn’t want it – her friend had a breech birth. Ray explains that her friend probably had a Frank Breech, where the baby’s butt gets delivered first. Coburn tells Claire that she has a footling breech. If the cervix doesn’t dilate enough, the baby’s head will get stuck and the umbilical cord will get compressed with each contraction, jeopardizing oxygen supply. Ray tells Claire that she needs to do what’s best for the baby. Claire asks Coburn if she’s ever done a delivery like this before. Coburn says she has, but the baby was smaller. Claire asks what will happen if she doesn’t have the surgery. Coburn says they’ll allow the baby to be delivered to the umbilicus, which will give the cervix time to dilate. Then they’ll “use maneuvers” to deliver the head and shoulders. Claire wants to do that, but Ray tells her it’s not a good idea. Coburn explains that there’s a 25% risk of major complications with a footling breech and only 2% with a C-section. Claire says that there’s a 75% chance that the baby will be born w/o any problems. Coburn looks at Sam and Ray, then tells Claire they’ll do it her way. They’ll see if the labor proceeds. But if the baby’s heart rate drops too low, they may still have to do a C-section. Claire asks for the baby’s heart rate and is told that it’s 164. Claire says that everything seems fine – she doesn’t want the surgery. As Coburn leaves, she tells them that she’ll send somebody down as soon as a room’s available upstairs. Ray and Sam share a look. Claire asks for Toni, so Ray says he’ll see if she’s off the phone. However, Ray’s real intention for leaving the room is to talk with Coburn. Ray asks, “Are you really not going to consent for a C-section?” Coburn says she won’t do it against Claire’s will. Ray asks her what she’ll do if there’s any trouble with the baby and a C-section needs to be performed. She says that she can’t do it. Ray asks if Coburn’s kidding. Coburn says that Claire has the right to decide. Ray says, “What about Toni? It’s her baby too.” 2 pages later, Abby tells Jerry she’s still waiting for test results. She’s hoping PICU’s on the phone, calling to admit the 10 yo. Why is he asking? Jerry says that his buddies are asking about him. Abby sees the kids through the triage window and tells Jerry to keep the kids there. Jerry moves off to do that, and Abby gets on the phone. It’s the PICU, and it seems they’re ready to take the 10 yo. She tells them that they’re still waiting on his labs but they’ll send him up. She hangs up and tells Malik to prep the kid for the PICU.

Lubasha Visnjic: Abby walks to the waiting room. The kids (one of them is carrying an extra backpack) are standing near Jerry. She tells them that she needs to know what their friend took. The kids start running, but Jerry catches one of them – the one carrying the extra backpack. His name’s Dermott. He wants Jerry to let go, but Jerry won’t. Abby tells Dermott that his friend’s really sick and she needs to know his name. Dermott says his friend’s name is Liam. Abby asks Dermott if Liam took anything. He didn’t. She wants to know why they ran when the paramedics arrived. He says it’s because they skipped school and that all they wanted to do was get some lunch at the mall. Abby asks if Liam’s been sick. Dermott doesn’t think so, but Liam hasn’t been in school for awhile. Abby asks why not and is told that his parents are getting a divorce and he has to shuttle back and forth between his parents. That’s why they skipped school – they just wanted to hang out together. Abby asks if Liam has any medical conditions. The only thing Dermott knows is that Liam’s parents are vegetarians. A note says that Abby’s trying her best not to lose her patience as she asks him if Liam was acting differently today. Dermott says he might’ve been bummed – he ate 2 jumbo cheeseburgers. Abby says she thought Dermott said that Liam’s a vegetarian. Dermott just shrugs. Munson calls for Abby and tells her that Liam’s getting worse. Abby asks Dermott if he has Liam’s backpack. He does. She says she needs it. She also wants Dermott to give Liam’s name and phone number to Jerry STAT. Abby walks back inside the room and tosses the backpack to Munson. 3 pages later, Abby mentions to Munson that Liam ate 2 cheeseburgers. Munson doesn’t know understand. Malik doesn’t either and tells Abby that they need to send Liam upstairs. Abby disagrees – she thinks they need to get his ammonia level. She tells Munson to run and get some ice because ammonia’s got to go to the lab cold. Munson leaves. Malik tells Abby that they can do that upstairs, but Abby says they’ll do it after they run other tests first. Meanwhile, the kid’s brain could be “pickling in”. As Malik leaves, Abby tells Liam to hang in there.

Lubasha Visnjic: Cut to Jane putting an internal ECG monitor on Claire’s baby so that they can get a more accurate read of its heart rate. Jane has her hand in Claire’s vagina, and Ray talks Jane through the procedure. The heart rate’s good, and Claire says she told them she was fine. Ray tells her that that’s only for the time being. If the baby gets into trouble, every second counts when it’s oxygen-deprived. Sam says that that isn’t happening. Ray adds that it’s not happening yet. Claire wants to know why Ray’s trying to scare her. He says he’s not; he’s just trying to prep her for what may happen. He also tells her that thousands of C-sections are performed every day and it’s a simple procedure. Claire says she wants to have more kids of her own one day – naturally. Ray tells her lots of women have natural births after having C-sections. A note says that Claire seems to be softening on the idea. She asks if she can consent, but only if it’s a last resort. Ray says yes, and Sam gives her a form to sign. Sam tells Claire about the risks associated with C-sections, and Ray tries to interrupt. Sam keeps going, saying that the procedure could result in death, and Ray says, “Sam!” Claire says, “Death?” Ray tells her that it’s a minimal risk. Then he asks to speak to Sam outside. Claire hands the form back to Sam and says she won’t sign it. Ray takes the form from Sam as she heads out and tells her to think about. He leaves, and Jane’s the only one left with Claire now. Cut to Ray and Sam at the drug lockup. Pages later, Abby asks Ray if he’s ever done one before (don’t know what they’re referring to). Ray says, “How hard can it be?” He asks for the location of the patient, but she says she’ll ask Pratt to show her instead. Neela tells her that she might want to ask Luka because Pratt’s in a nasty mood. She says Pratt can’t be any worse than Munson. Abby wants to switch interns with Neela in the next shift because Munson’s too weird and he doesn’t like her. Ray says, “Can you blame him?” Abby doesn’t know what he means. Ray clues her in to the fact that Munson was Jake’s roomie. She wants to know why he didn’t tell her that. He says he thought she knew. A note says that Abby “looks like she could kill as Jane comes up”. She tells Ray that Claire needs him. Ray wants to know if the baby’s in distress. Jane says that it’s a domestic dispute. As they leave, Babinski walks up to Neela, “tail between his legs”. BTW, he keeps calling her Dr. Rasgorta. She tells him to just call her Neela instead. He tells her that Drew’s freaking out about how long she’s had to wait. Neela asks Abby to help her put on an ankle cast. Abby sounds surprised that Neela’s asking help on a simple procedure, so Neela explains that the patient’s a friend of Abby’s. Heh. They walk into Drew’s room, and Drew starts complaining. She wants to know if there’s anyone there who can put on her cast. Neela says that she and Abby can do that. Drew says, “Then what the hell are you waiting for?” She urgently needs to attend a conference. Abby apologizes for making Drew wait, but sometimes they lose track of time when they’re saving lives. Drew asks Abby if she’s being sarcastic. She’s the customer in the ER, and if she’s not satisfied, she’ll speak to their supervisor. A note says the scene ends off Abby and Neela: “as they share a look which suggests only more trouble”.

Lubasha Visnjic: Cut to Toni, Rob, and Claire. Rob tells Claire that they had a contract. She says she didn’t agree to surgery. Rob reminds her that she consented to all medical procedures related to the pregnancy. Ray enters and wants to know what’s going on. Rob says Claire needs a C-section and he has a legal document giving them permission to do it. Ray doesn’t think so and asks them to talk with him outside. Rob tells Claire that if she doesn’t do it, she’ll be in breach of contract and she won’t get paid. Claire says she just wants to deliver naturally. Outside of the room, Rob says he’s going to get a court order to force Claire to have a C-section. Ray says he can’t do it, but Rob insists he can. Ray says they’re doing everything they can to convince her, but they can’t force her. Toni mentions how hard and how expensive it was for them to go through IVF. They gave Claire the last of their embryos. Ray says this isn’t the way they should approach the situation. They should let him try again. Sam calls for Ray and tells him that the baby’s heart rate dropped. Toni wants to know what that means. Ray says they have to rush Claire up to OB STAT and tells them that he wants them to wait outside. He goes back into the room where Jane , Sam and Inez are prepping to move Claire. Ray asks Claire how she’s feeling, but she has a hard time talking through the contraction. She asks if she’s being moved. Ray tells her that she is because the baby’s heart rate dropped after her last contraction, which may indicate cord compression. She asks for the heart rate and is told that it’s 112. Claire thinks that that’s still good. Toni and Rob follow the gurney. Rob tries to tell Claire that she really needs the C-section, but Claire argues that she knows her own body and they should trust her. She promises that if anything goes wrong with the baby, she’ll have another one for them. They’re about to wheel Claire into the elevator when Toni says they want to come. Claire says no because they’re stressing her out. Sam tells Toni and Rob to let them get Claire settled, and she’ll be back for them in a few minutes. Cut to Pratt at the board in Admit. A note says he seems to be making no progress. Morris is at the computer with a bunch of paperwork. Pratt asks him if he’s going to treat any patients today. Morris says he’d love to but he’s got a ton of paperwork. Pratt wants to know what he’s doing. Morris says he’s doing chart reviews, teaching conference schedules…CR stuff. Morris says he envies Pratt being able to work “in the trenches” – all he is is a paper pusher. He tells Pratt to stop by his office for a drink – some guys in “utilization review” gave him a good bottle of Macallan’s. Chuny approaches and introduces Karen Simms. We’re told Pratt treated her mother. Pratt doesn’t remember her, so Chuny says, “GSW”. He remembers and thanks Chuny. Karen wants to know what that means, so Pratt tells her. She’s shocked. Pratt tries to explain what happened, but Karen interrupts and asks if her Mom’s dead. Pratt explains what they did to treat her mother and then tells her that the injuries were too severe. Karen wants to know if her Mom was in pain. Pratt says no. She asks if her Mom said anything. Pratt says she was talking a little when she came in, but she became unconscious when she lost a lot of blood. Would Karen like to see her? Karen says it’s too late. Pratt says that she can still say goodbye. Karen replies that her Mom will never know. She says it’s OK – her Mom and her had a falling out years ago and they were both waiting for the other to give in and say they were wrong. She says, “I guess I win. Thanks”. She leaves.

Lubasha Visnjic: Cut to Coburn trying to deliver Claire’s baby. A nurse and Ray are also in attendance. The contraction eases, and we find out that the baby’s hips are out now. Claire can push during the next contraction. Claire tells Ray that she told him she could do it. Ray says, “Yes you did”. Coburn tries to wrap a towel around Claire’s hips for gentle traction but an alarm sounds – the baby’s heart rate is down to 100. And dropping fast. Claire asks if the baby’s OK, and Ray tells her that the baby’s heart rate is dangerously low. The cord’s getting compressed and the baby’s not getting enough oxygen. Ray tells her that this is what they warned her about. Coburn thinks the heart rate will increase between contractions. Claire looks scared. Ray tells her that it’s not too late for her to change her mind and have a C-section. She’ll have a better chance of having a healthy baby. Claire doesn’t want it because the baby’s almost out. Ray says they can push it back in and do the C-section in 2 minutes. Claire thinks she can deliver the baby in 2 minutes. He says they don’t know that for sure – the head could be trapped. Another contraction hits, and Ray tries to convince Claire to have the surgery. Coburn wants Ray to stop. Claire says she can do it. Ray tells her she needs the surgery. Coburn wants Ray to leave Claire alone so that she can concentrate on pushing. Ray tries to convince her again, and Coburn warns him that he’s out if he does that one more time. The act ends with Claire pushing, the alarms going off, and Ray hoping for the best. End of Act 3. Act 4: They’re all doing their best to get the baby out. Claire says she’s really trying. Ray suggests using forceps. Coburn tells Ray to sling the baby around the hips with a towel. Then she uses the forceps on the baby’s head. Coburn asks Claire to push one more time. The baby’s out, and Moog, the pediatrician, says the baby looks cyanotic. They cut the cord and put him in the baby warmer. The baby’s not moving, so they do CPR. Claire thinks Toni and Rob should be allowed to enter and see the baby, but Coburn tells her she wants them to work on the baby first. Claire asks, “Is it bad?” Ray tells her that the baby’s not breathing and he doesn’t have a pulse. “I’d call that bad”. Coburn reprimands him. Ray says that if Claire were really that worried, she would’ve had the C-section. She’d be holding the baby right now if she did that instead of having them shove a tube down his throat. Coburn throws him out. Ray bumps into Toni and Rob in the hallway. They can tell by the look on Ray’s face that it didn’t go well. They ask if the baby’s OK, and Ray tells them that it was a very hard delivery. They want to know if they can see the baby, but Ray tells them they can’t because he’s still being worked on. Toni says, “Working on him?” Ray tells them that the baby was deprived of oxygen. She wants to know what that means. He says they’ll know more once Moog fully assesses the baby. However, there’s a good chance the baby suffered neurologic damage. We see that Toni’s upset and Rob’s angry. Rob wants to go home. Toni says “What about our son?” Ray tells them that Moog will have answers for them soon. Rob says that Ray already gave them the answer. They didn’t pay to have a brain dead baby. Ray says he’s not brain dead. Rob counters that he’s not normal but he would’ve been if Claire had consented to the C-section. Rob walks away. Toni stays and tells Ray that they were going to name the baby after her father. Ray tells her that they still can. Rob says, “Let’s go”. She walks away with him.

Lubasha Visnjic: Cut to Pratt in a high school hallway, looking at a trophy display. He looks at a team photo, and Chas Pratt is amongst those represented. He moves down the corridor towards the swimming pool where a meet’s taking place. He sees Charlie, his wife, Evelyn, and their daughter, Joy, in the bleachers. Pratt’s half-brother, Chas, is about to get on the blocks for the 200 meter freestyle. The Pratt family cheer Chas on. A note says that it seems they’re a very tight family unit, something that is a foreign concept to Pratt. He tries to make sure they don’t see him. Cut to Abby and Liam, who’s getting better. Dermott’s there, too. Abby asks Liam how he feels. He doesn’t feel too good. She tells him that his parents are on their way and that they were worried about him. He says good. Abby advises him to talk with his parents if he’s upset with them. He says OK. Then he says, “My friend thinks your [sic] a MILF.” She doesn’t know what it means, so he says, “Mother-I’d-Like-To”. Abby says she’s not a mother – she’s a doctor. Liam says that he guesses that makes her a DILF. She says goodbye and reminds him to stay on his diet and wear his Medic Alert bracelet. A note says Liam’s wheeled off and Abby wipes his name off the board. “Jake’s postcard is still taunting her. She makes sure no one is watching, then takes it down. She reads the brief message on the back then tears it up and tosses it in the trash under the desk.” She looks up and sees that Neela has been watching her. Neela wants to know if she’s supposed to pretend that she didn’t see that. Abby says, “See what?” Neela replies, “Okay”. A note says, “Abby isn’t going to talk about this—yeah, right”. Abby says she hasn’t heard from Jake but he sent a postcard to the ER. Neela says she practically chased him out of town with a torch. Morris comes up and they both ask him to sign off on their charts. Morris asks about Pratt, and Abby says he left. 2 pages later, it seems Morris has only signed off on one of Neela’s charts. He turns to Abby and says, “Let’s see if you can do better than one for four, Lockhart”. She doesn’t give him her charts. He asks if she needs him to sign off on them. She says no. He thought she said that she had charts for him to sign. She says only Neela said that. He points to her charts and asks if those are hers. She says no. Jane enters and asks someone to show her how to do 2 things. Neela asks about Ray’s whereabouts, and Jane informs her that he never came back down from labor and delivery. Abby and Neela look at each other. Then Neela says he’s probably hitting on the new OB nurses. Abby agrees to teach Jane the 2 procedures.

Lubasha Visnjic: 4 pages later, Pratt says he has to leave. As he goes, Charlie, Evelyn, and Joy approach. Charlie tells Chas he’s hungry. A note says that Charlie’s mood changes the moment he sees Pratt. It’s one of those ‘yikes’ moments. Evelyn notices Charlie’s mood change, so he tries to tell her what happened. She’s surprised and p*ssed, but puts on a good front for Pratt and the kids. Charlie introduces them to Pratt, telling them that Pratt’s his son and he’s a doctor at County. Evelyn thinks it’s wonderful. Pratt thanks her. Charlie invites Pratt out to dinner with them. Chas said he already offered, but Pratt has to work. Maybe some other time. Charlie thinks that would be good. Pratt leaves. “Charlie’s got some ‘splaining to do”. Cut to Luka and Sam’s apartment. It’s dark. Luka calls their names. No one’s there. There are boxes everywhere. A note says, “She’s already started packing. One of the boxes is labelled, ‘Alex’s room’.” He gets a beer and finds the bottle opener near one of Alex’s action toy figures. It’s the one he stepped on in the teaser. He puts it in the box full of Alex’s things and…END OF EPISODE. Êîíåö

Sam, Sam, Sam!! I have a prediction....Luka mentions going to Croatia and asks Sam to go with him Yippeee Run Luka Run. I just got a feeling that if they do a episode in Croatia Abby will be with him. Just a gut feeling. ---------------------------------------------- mackiaveli Member (9/30/05 4:43 am) I'm not a Pratt fan. But I did think his story with his father was well acted and written for the most part. Abby and Luka did not bother me. And how could I forget Neela? I LOVED Neela in the episode. -----------------------------------------------------------------

Lubasha Visnjic: angselz Member (9/30/05 9:10 am) Luka - He's not as doomy as he was before. He actually smiled. Before he would have been depressed and been a jerk to everyone in the ER. I have to say Sam was not nice to Luka (AKA bitchy) but how many times does he need to be rejected before he gets the idea? Why does Luka think his failed relationship with Sam is his fault? Was the communication problem really just him? Son of Sam - HORRIBLE actor. Luka/Abby - Why do I get the feeling that luby v.2 will be actually lighthearted or fun? MT/GV still work well with each other. So is this out of left field or have they maintained a friendship throughout Sam/Luka's relationship? ----------------------------------------------------------------- YeahSure Member (9/30/05 9:36 am) Ugh. Sam. Why are they doing this? She was horrid to him. The breakup is more about life choices than about dislike, no? So why do they write her as being hateful toward him, as if he's done something wrong? They are doing her no favors. She wouldn't even TALK to him. And I hated the scene where Luka was all puppy-eyed and begging Sam to take a few minutes to talk. TPTB made Luka look like an idiot, in front of Sam, Ray and the new intern (Inez?). She should have already moved out by the time this episode aired to spare us Luka getting trampled on AGAIN. This would be a giant example of what I don't want to see with him and Abby. If they are throwing these two together so Abby v.2 can pull an Abby v.1 or Sam on him, I will be so pissed. Looks like TPTB had Luby 2.0 in their minds last season when this was filmed, if the little chat between Luka and Abby is to be read that. At least he wasn't about to jump off bridge and was able to smile. Ray is awful. Shane West simply cannot act. There's no way around it. I don't buy him for a millisecond as anyone's doctor. Such a shame. There are so many decent actors out there waiting for their big break, and here's Shane West chewing up the ER scenery. The storyline itself was a little disturbing, and I just don't buy the fact that Dr. Coburn would sit there and let Ray do all the talkng while the baby is stuck and not breathing. Pratt was very good tonight, I thought. I'm enjoying the Danny Glover stuff.

Lubasha Visnjic: fairydust13 Luka's Kurva Nurse (9/30/05 9:52 am) Lucky girl that Abby. ------------------------- three chords Member (9/30/05 11:09 am) She was being idiotic. After he said to her that maybe him going away to Croatia for a couple of weeks may be good for them, she said she's moving away. And then she continued on with something like, "well you just said we should spend time apart" and of course he was all, "that's not what I meant!" What I don't understand is that although their split was hard, it was still relatively amicable in that nobody cheated or moved on to another person or abused the other party. They basically came to the realization they wanted completely different things in life and therefore the logical (and healthy) response is to move on. Yet Sam is choosing to act like he just killed her dog or something! I just don't understand. He's not only been kind to her and her son, but he's been an all around decent, helpful guy and they split on good terms, and I may add, HER terms. But no, she can't be gracious about it, she has to be hostile right to his face. Unforgivable. There is no believable way, IMO, to repair this. I'd rather see Luka with Pratt than with Sam at this point. She just grates.

Lubasha Visnjic: Observateur Member (9/30/05 11:24 am) Shane West is useless. I agree with whoever said there are tons of young actors out there waiting for a chance like this, and I'm sure a lot of them would play the rock doc party easily. I will never understand why they hired SW, but when you go to ff.net and see the amount of Ray fics, maybe that's an answer: teen crowd. He is ER's weakest link and TPTB should know this by now, why they gave him this plot is beyond me. It needed a much better actor in order to make it some how watchable. The story was the worst part of the episode, the surrogate mother and the parents were very unpleasant people and Ray was an ass through the whole thing. New Alex is a cute kid, but a poor actor, and it showed in the little scene with Luka. I'm still not convinced there will be a Croatia episode, and I was surprised Luka's father is alive. Luka can easily afford to have his father coming for a visit more than once a year, but it's always the other way around. I won't be surprised if the man is in a wheelchair or has some physical problem that prevent him from travelling. Could also explain why Luka has always been way nicer to Kerry than Kerry has been to him, and way nicer to her than everybody else. Parminder Nagra is simply beautiful and I think I could kill for her hair. I liked her scenes a lot. I don't think Abby and Luka were being exactly flirty (there's another word I want to use, just cannot think about find it), and I believe the vastely unspoiled audience was supposed to take it as two friends who dated in the past having a warm talk. There are probably more unspoiled scenes between them, and I agree with Iczer that even in a playfully way, it was about the women being right and the men being wrong. Overall it was a nice normal scene, that I'm sure the normal viewer didn't pay much attention, but will connect the dots later. They are so paving the way to a reunion. One night stand my ass. But one way or another Abby still owe Luka an apology (or several). MT and GV looked extremely comfortable in that scene. I'm not a huge Danny Glover fan, but I liked the scenes with Pratt's father. Pratt annoys me sometimes, but I like Mekhi, who is a very talented actor . Loved the scenes with the other family, and they seemed nice, nice, nice. I just don't get the kid never knew about a half-brother. I guess what I liked the most is that it wasn't a big drama, with screams and accusations, it was normal, akward, but normal.

Lubasha Visnjic: legaleagle1 Member (9/30/05 11:58 am) Loved the Abby and Neela comedy moments. Those two really do play well off each other, much better than Abby ever did with Susan or Chen. How nice to see no Susan in the credits. Sam...what to say? It's like she's already completely moved on. Luka's still trying to keep hope alive and she's all "Next!" New Alex can't act. Sad to see him just standing there like a lump while Luka tried to express his feelings to Alex. Loved the new intern getting three different approaches from three different residents. Pratt's storyline could be interesting. I thought he was good. Abby was shown to be struggling with the diagnosis of the kid, I did not feel she was being made out as Superdoc. Oh, yeah, they are going Luby. Overall I thought it was a good episode.

Lubasha Visnjic: latenight1 Member (10/2/05 3:42 am) Wow- They sure are burying Sam and Luka with all the "poor-Luka" business. I guess with time all things pass (even the Luby breakup!) I didn't get into any of the plots this week. Ray was horrendous. Abby and Neela's stuff was just silly and Liam's story didn't grab me. The only good stuff this week was actually Pratt's story. For the most part I can't be bothered with this episode. -------------------------------------- MarcySue Member (10/2/05 3:56 pm) Sadly, though, they also did a pretty good job trashing a British woman too. Elizabeth was one of my all-time favorite ER characters and they made her unbearable during her final seasons. I really fear what they would do to poor Neela if she does get a front-burner relationship on the show. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- otoolerm12 Member (10/2/05 4:21 pm) I agree with you re how tptb treated Elizabeth, MarcySue. But since she was with Mark, she was never really considered to be a possible love interest for Luka (though I think they would have made a very good match). I used to love Elizabeth, and hated the way tptb threw away a great character. I think that Neela is still a fresh enough character that they won't mess her up with any hidden psychosis or general weirdness. I still say that the American female stars are portrayed as deficient in forming and keeping relationships. Bring either Gillian or Elizabeth back into the mix and Luka may possibly finally have a chance at real love.

Lubasha Visnjic: otoolerm12 Member (10/2/05 11:03 pm) Pre-Mark Elizabeth was great. But the Elizabeth of yore went away when she married Mark. As much as I liked Mark, his relationship with Elizabeth messed up both characters. ----------------------------

Lubasha Visnjic: AzizalSaqr Sep 30 2005, 03:57 AM Luka and Sam...I know, I'm a sucker for Luka but I feel so sorry for him...he comes downstairs, and Sam springs the move on him with no warning at all. The groundwork was laid for Goran's possible landing of Bond with the mention of Luka's father wanting him to go back for a visit as well. I liked the little exchange between Luka and Abby where she tries to find out what is going on and he tells her Sam is moving out. Nice touch with her laying the blame for their break-up on him and him accepting it with a smile. If only all old relationships could leave the two still friends. I felt bad too for Alex as Luka tried to assure him that he wouldn't walk out of his life just because they weren't living with him anymore. Things were definitely uncomfortable. The mixed messages between the R2's and the female intern showed the distinct differences in their styles, now for her to find the happy blend between them. I think Ray really came of his own in this episode, fighting for what he felt was right and then in the end choosing to stay with the baby that no one wanted. Good for Abby too in fighting for what she thought needed to be done on her patient and kudos to Luka for being man enough to praise her on the catch even though she had gone against his orders in running the additional tests. I enjoyed the scenes between Danny Glover and Mekhi, Greg has every right to be angry but it was good to see him set those differences aside to go see the half-brother compete. I didn't envy him the family meeting and can also understand his hesitation to get involved in it. It won't be easy to come to terms to altering his feelings on his father's leaving him only to start a second family and welcome him into it, but I think it'll be interesting to watch it unfold. I still hate Morris though...can't help it, he annoys me. ----------------------------------------- jenstwins Sep 30 2005, 04:37 AM Couldn't agree more that this was a solid episode. Ray has just made a new fan. I think Shane West did a great job as well. I'm looking forward to next week when Kristen Johnston joins the show for a while. The Pratt and Charlie storyline was good as well. Tonight, I'm proud to be an ER fan.

Lubasha Visnjic: cdessler Sep 30 2005, 06:32 AM I had to work tonight so my husband taped the episode for me... however something went wrong with the tape right around the second commercial break and it only picked back up in the last few seconds of the episode. I wasn't too terribly upset since I didn't miss any Leland, but I was looking forward to seeing Danny Glover. Morris completely cracks me up. My dad wanted to throttle him. The guy that they got to play Mason seriously does look like the serial-killer type... I'm sad I missed out on seeing more of him. And Luka? Needs a hug. I wouldn't mind giving him one. ----------------------------------------------- Copestic Sep 30 2005, 12:14 PM That was a very good episode. It started off like a lot of the older ER episodes with two friends travel to work together. I liked how they used the bitchy girls to judge Neela and Abby. Then when the one hurt her ankle and found out that they both were doctors. Hahaha. Abby had a great line as well "Your ankle is broken and you are a bitch!" It was funny and a great ER quote. I really have to say that I didn't like Ray throughout the storyline. He was acting very unprofessional and nonobjective. I know he wanted her to do the safe thing but it was such a complicated situation. Ray won me over during the last scene, though. It was touching and sad. It was nice to see how much he cared and invested into that case. I feel bad for Luka. I know he saw the Sam thing coming but I don't think he wanted to admit it to himself. Then when he talked to Alex outside of the hospital, he tried to be optimist but it was so uncomfortable. The interaction between Abby and Luka later was interesting with their mild attempt to flirt. Abby actually was supportive of Luka and even made him smile. I am use to seeing Abby make men cringe and her just give people attitude. That was a nice change. Morris, as annoying as he is, made me laugh when he was trying to be in charge. Then the R2 teaching with each their own styles. I feel bad for the interns but I guess you have to learn a little from each. The intern that Abby had was interesting because he reminded me of a male version of Abby. He was snippy, gave dirty looks, and seemed like he knew everything. When he finally accepted that he didn't, he started to learn and relaxed a little. I like how they are developing Pratt. His whole situation with is family is complicated but at least he realized that he should reach out to them. It is going to be awkward for awhile but I think he has the opportunity to be part of something he has never experienced. It will be interesting how it affects his attitude. Overall, good episode and good writing I am so far happy with this season.

Lubasha Visnjic: ladylightning20 Sep 30 2005, 01:06 PM 1. Ugh. If we have any more of Abby as super-doc, I'm going to scream. Literally. 2. Mmmmm....sexy, broody Luka. 3. I find the new interns annoying. --------------------------------- KzamInUSA Sep 30 2005, 03:59 PM I agree that this episode was more reminiscent of the ER style that we saw in Seasons 10 and 11 than the season premiere was, and it contained writing that was more consistent with what we know about the existing characters. However, I wouldn't say that it was a great episode. First of all, this episode was billed as having an important storyline for both Danny Glover and the surrogate mother. The fact is that storylines involving Abby (none of which had to do with Glover or the mother) took up half the time of the entire episode. Danny Glover was in less than 8 minutes of this entire show. Why did they even ask him to appear? The surrogate mother story was pretty good, although her objections to having a C-section in this day and age were very flimsy and pretty unbelievable. Aside from that, I really enjoyed Ray's scene at the end with the baby and the OB doctor. This episode also contained scenes with the interns, with Neela and Morris, but these scenes amount to less than 5 minutes of air time. Aside from that, the remainder of this episode was about Abby. We see the first indications of the return of Luby. We see Abby taking Carter’s place as the intuitive, knowledgeable physician. We see Abby being doted over by two pre-teen boys, who, true to the episode spoilers, call her a MILF and DILF. I apologize to Abby/Tierney fans, but in no universe where 20/20 vision is the norm and where teen and pre-teen boys fantasize about women like Pam Anderson and super models, is Abby going to rate an “ILF” anything. The woman is pretty, but she is no, “Stacy’s Mom”. We see Abby ripping up a postcard that doesn’t belong to her simply because Jake didn’t address it to her instead of to the ER staff. We see Abby ignoring her first duty as a physician simply because she didn't like the woman's attitude. --------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lubasha Visnjic: Gorans Gal Sep 30 2005, 04:39 PM Sounds an OK episode. Like people have commented, better than the previous. I'm quite intrigued about the Pratt storyline even if its not being the attention that it deserves. We've had Pratt the womaniser kinda thing and with Chen and the arrogant Doctor, now something about his family is interesting. I mean unlike other family-related issues *Cough* Abby *Cough* -------------------------------------- Machiavelli Oct 1 2005, 04:47 AM I thought Laura did an excellent job directing. The episode was fast paced and funny along with poignat moments. And I LOVED Neela. Even though it bugs seeing Abby always favored. I thought Abby was funny in the episode. Next week look better and focused on Luka. And the new nurse manger played by Kristen Johnson. --------------------------------- shanesgirl Oct 1 2005, 06:19 PM I loved the Episode!! I thought Ray did an Awsome job!! (Way to go Shane) He showed alot of emotion. I want to see more of his charactor. Neela, and Abby were great too!! It's so plain that he's not getting what he needs, and it's so plain that it's about time some bright sunshine came into his life. It's funny how I never thought I'd feel bad for a doctor...j/k. ----------------------------- Caitie Oct 2 2005, 03:04 AM Shane west did an amazing job this eppy. I really liked his plot line ------------------------------ Stormwatcher77 Chair, Faculty Senate (9/29/05 10:00 pm) A few random thoughts for this evening and then more later tomorrow or this weekend. Last week, I was willing to give Sam a little benefit of the doubt in her feelings about her own life. But after this episode, I have little sympathy for her – none in fact. She could even be graceful in her announcement to Luka. Disgraceful. Poor Luka. He tries to talk too late. And interestingly, his father wants him to come visit in Croatia for a few weeks. Luka says he has some vacation coming. Nobody’s Baby: three of them in this episode – the baby that Ray delivers, Pratt who can’t bring himself to join in a family, and Luka. I was impressed with Ray in this episode. Strangely enough, it was a bit of a recycled plot, reminding me of MayDay and Luka’s struggle with Gloria who did not want a c-section, and Coburn, who would not impose one. Still, it was a poignant, sad little story and I though SW did a good job with it, particularly in the last two scenes: as he watched the parents walk away, and as he sat with the baby and talked to Coburn. I really like Danny Glover and I liked the portrayal here – as a man willing to confront his past, willing to make amends. And MP did a great job as tempted but afraid, and being defiant as a cover up. I had to laugh at the joke Abby made, teasing Luka out of his funk a little bit by saying she was glad to know that he had a communication problem because she had always taken on their breakup as all her fault. Luka laughed at least. All I can say is I can't wait for the person with whom Luka communicates. The ones he has talked to are in love with someone else (Carol), or dead (the bishop, Matilda). Someday. --------------------------------------

Ìàøóëÿ: È ìíå êàæåòñÿ, èëè òîëïû íàðîäà íà÷èíàþò ôàíàòåòü îò Ïðàòòà?

Lubasha Visnjic: DreamingDiva Visiting Scholar (9/29/05 11:19 pm) Agreed on pretty much everything. As a Ray fan, I was glad to see that the writing was much, much stronger this episode. I really was pleased with his plot, and as you said, SW did a great job with it, especially in the last two scenes with the parents and with Coburn. The sad smile when he looked at the baby right before he told Coburn that the little guy had a rough first day and he shouldn't have to spend his first night alone was just....I thought it was well done. The Luka and Abby was actually nice. I'm not going to say I'm rooting for the relationship (and no, I'm not a Carby either), but I liked their interaction. I loved the Pratt story as well. Odd for me, given I don't normally like Pratt very much at all. For the Brits here, I have always tended to think 'Pratt' was very aptly named. But they did a great job writing for him this episode. Loved the interactions between him and his father's new family, and I'm looking forward to seeing that explored. And Morris. Wow. Who'd have thought he'd get particular about charting, given that he's prone to shirking responsibilties when it suits him. Like taking a nap last week and leaving Neela on auto-pilot. But it was nice continuity for Susan telling Luka in an episode from last season that Morris isn't the sharpest shovel in the shed, but he's a paperwork hound. And I'm hoping that him enforcing the rules on Neela means he's going to stop being such an irresponsible, bad doctor and lousy excuse for a Chief Resident and start trying to really do well at it, like he told Ray he wanted to in the finale. And I also loved Neela and Abby with the two, um, 'witches' on the El (I think it was). Classic stuff. I love when they team up. And that's all from me tonight. I loved the episode overall, but I was most glad to see no pattern of incompetence emerging on Ray. They really did well for him in the finale and I really want to see that continue. -------------------------------------- carterfan4ever Resident Scholar (9/30/05 10:04 am) The thing is that Abby has picked up on Luka's mood several times since their breakup. She picked it up in the Nicole instance for example. She also picked up on his bad state of mind in season ten and tried talking to him. Abby does have a pattern of sometimes trying to help people. Ler's see if we see this same sort of behavior directed at other people besides luka. I hope we do. Granted she is doing it in a much healthier way now than we saw the first couple of years she was on the show. This episode showed Abby being reminded of two relationships she failed at. She joked around with Luka about how she now knows itwas his fault. She was reminded of Jake there. Now if we can only see her adress her relationship with carter. I'm hoping that is with Neela. I really enjoy the Neela/Abby relationship. While luka/abby are friends , I do not want to see anything more. If they ever became more than that I still don't think I could watch much of it and it would likley turn me off the show. I really think that luka needs friendship this season with several people and no romance. He is not very healthy at this point in time. This episode was better than last week . Partially because we saw more Abby. I loved her with Neela and I enjoyed seeing her as Dr. It was also better because it was a morer ensemble episode than last week.

Lubasha Visnjic: Northern dancer1 Vice Chair (9/30/05 2:09 pm) No Susan in the credits Chuny telling Luka she thinks his patient died. LOL! This used to be a running joke on the boards, all during season 6, when Luka seemed to loose all of his patients. Luka balling his gloves and throwing them at Abby, saying "Nice pick-up!", after she gives him the low-down on her diagnosis at one hundred miles an hour The little scene where Luka and Alex are playing basketball. Luka sure has learned how to get the ball in the basket since season 6 (Such Sweet Sorrow), when of course the scene was used to telegraph how second-best he was to Doug in Carol's eyes. His promise to Alex that "We'll still go camping on your birthday. Promise!" was really sad, as was his need to tell Alex that Sam's moving out wasn't his idea. I found it touching, this reminder that his feelings for Alex were genuine and separate from his feelings for Sam. The abandonment of the baby by the surrogate mother and the natural parents. Baby as consumer item. How horrible. Dr. Coburn was back, arguing as she did in season 6 to Luka, for the mother's right to her own body. Her silence and self-restraint when we could clearly see her containing her disapproval was beautifully conveyed. --------------------- shopAholic Posted: Sep 29 2005, 10:04 PM The start was extremely boring. I like Morris' "One needs a brain, One needs courage and one needs heart" line. Same with Abby's "your ankle might be broken and your a bitch", that was good too. At the part when the girl was in labor and was trying to get her to consent to the surgery, that felt like the "old" ER....maybe it's cause it was Amy Aquino. We better see more of Weaver soon! I know Laura Innes is directing and all, but please lets have a Weaver storyline that lasts 2+ episodes!

Lubasha Visnjic: mag1575 Posted: Sep 29 2005, 10:56 PM I enjoyed this episode, especailly liked Abby's second opinion on the woman with the broken ankle. I thought it was finally about time to see an episode that sort of focused on Ray. I'm not a fan of Morris, but we shall see how he turns out. I don't like the fact that Luka and Sam have seperated for now, but they need their space. I don't know does anyone think Kristen Jonhson is going to be good? I'm sure she is a good actress, but I was not a Third Rock From the Sun fan. Anyway, a good episode I can't wait for next week. -------------------------- NeelaFan Posted: Sep 29 2005, 11:05 PM I have to agree, I enjoyed this episode, especially the situation with the breach baby, it really did feel like "old school" ER, something I really enjoyed. Of course I loved the beginning with Abby's second opinion, that was really good. And I have to give kudos to Abby for catching that metabolic thing with the little kid, Luka noticed too. Both Neela and Abby were very good in this one. And by the way, both of them are hotter than the hot, snobby girl that broke her ankle. Overall good episode in my eyes, can't wait to see Kerry in the next episode and we'll see how Kristen Johnston will fit in and do. Go Neela, Abby and Ray! Here's to many more good shows! ----------------------------- LooneyLindz5 Posted: Sep 29 2005, 11:16 PM I have to say that I thought this episode stood heads and shoulders above the season permiere. 90% of it was centered in the hospital, which can make or break an episode, depending on how it's done. The hospital scenes definitely made this one. Luka and Sam. Bleh. Get it over and done with already. And I know I said that I thought the Alex replacement wasn't that bad last week, but I done changed my mind. That kid cannot act to save his life. He just REacts and stands there like he's too fixated on the dollar signs floating in his head or something. Bring back Oliver Davis! I say we start a petition...... only not. I absolutely LOVED Abby tonight. She had me in hysterics with her sarcasm. "Your ankle is broken and you're a bitch." Greatest line ever. She had plenty of others sprinkled throughout, but that was definitely the one that stood out. Her whole scene with Luka just... I dunno. I just... bleh. I actually liked Ray tonight. The surrogate storyline was absolutely amazing. I wanted to pummel the damn father. And I wanted to pummel the mother for listening to him and not staying with her child. I also loved seeing Amy Aquino aka Dr. Coburn again. I wish we had the chance to see her more often. And seeing her again kinda makes me wanna write fic for her. Hahaha. I hope we see more of Pratt and his dad. I really enjoyed Danny Glover's performance. I enjoyed the carnivorous overdose kid. I've only been a vegetarian for 3 years, but if I ate two double cheeseburgers.... oy. It would not be pretty. Morris was back to his annoying self tonight. Can't say I'm surprised. No Kerry, Susan, or Dubenko tonight. Bummed about that. At least I know that we get to see Weaver and Dubenko next week. WOOT. Next week's episode looks good, but I must confess that most of my excitement is geared toward seeing Dubenko again. But yes, I AM looking forward to the actual episode. Hee.

The line about it being his fault was jokey. I think she knows she played her part there. Ray. Well, he did what he thought was right and it was sweet that he stayed with the ababy at the end. Problem for me is that Shane West hasnt made me like Ray one bit in his time on the show so I didn't feel all that I might about it. And was anyone else reminded of Luka and Gloria in Mayday from Season 6? Pratt's stuff with Danny Glover looks like it might be good. I didn't like Pratt to start with but I think MP has done a good job and hes growing on me. Maybe its just that Ray has taken over in the can't be bothered to watch him stakes now. On the other hand it might also mean that I'll warm up to ray too. Sam. Go. Away. Jeez, could you be any bitchier to the guy who has tied himslef in knots to hwlp you? You don't want the relationship, thats fine - crazy, but fine - but really, a little kindness wouldn't hurt you. Luka's well rid of this bitch. Luka. Yum. Not snotty that Abby was right and he was wrong, nice moments with Abby. His dad's still around, that's good. I want to see the guy! As for romance, right now I don't care if they stick him with Haleh as long as they give him a little bit of happiness. Totally agree about the new Alex. Is the kid drugged or something? Oliver Davies was always sparky even when he was annoying, a great little actor but this one is awful. Feels like the season ans the show is picking up. I hope they keep this up.

Lubasha Visnjic: ashmo Posted: Sep 30 2005, 04:02 PM I thought this episode was probably the best in a while. I actually thougth that everyone got equal amount of screentime. Some talk about Abby getting too much but Luka got more and will continue to because both ar ehte leading lady and the leading male. Also Ray got a great part and so did Pratt. Sam had her lines did her job. Neela was part of the on-two punch with Abby and the lines. I thought it was a pretty ensemble episode. Ray- I actually liked him which is completely different, I think he was right trying to push her for the baby and the parents of the baby. He might of went a little too far but he had great intentions which is different. Pratt- I liked him to really different and I think I'll enjoy his storyline with his father I already like his half brother and father, Danny Glover was great as always. Neela- Like I said before did great with the one-two punch with the comedic lines with Abby. I think she could get a bigger part but I liked her as always Luka- Neeed to get over Sam and I loved the scene with him and Alex. I think the writers made it a little to far. It seemed when Sam and Luak first started that he really liked Alex and by midpoint Alex didn't really like him and Luka didn't really say anything, and then they just bust out wiht this scene showing that he always has kept Alex in his head, it was a little wierd. Abby- loved the sarcasm in every scene. I didn't think she was being put as Superdoc seeing how it took her forever to remember the VITAMIN acronym and how her patient wouldn't have done so well if his friends hadn't shown up and spilled about him being a vegetarian. But she did finally get it which was great New Alex: didn't particularly like --------------------------------------- CallingDoctor Posted: Sep 30 2005, 04:52 PM I don't have to worry about ER anymore. Last night confirmed that even 12 years into a show, it can created high quality drama. First of all, it balanced relationships/personal life and medical storylines very well. Personal life = Samka is over, Pratt's dad, and Luby probably coming up soon. Medical was a couple of things, the most powerful being the breach baby. Might i add that Ray is not a sloppy actor, but a good addition to the cast. Anyway, good good drama. One of my favorite ER episodes, no joke. Anyway, my friend SINO wants Luka and Sam together... She is a little bit sad with all the spoilers about Luby, the return... Whatever, let´s see what happens. ------------------------ Sshort75@. Date: Fri Sep 30, 2005 7:11 am Yay! Tata Kovac has been bugging Luka to come visit. Luka told Sam that he thought it might be good for them to spend some time apart. He would only be gone for a couple of weeks. Sam had just prior to that gotten a call from someone about looking at an apartment. When Luka finds out he's surprised. She says "You just said we should spend some time apart." Luka: "I didn't mean like that." Sam: "I just need some time to myself." ***** Luka asks Sam if she has a minute. She's working with Ray on the pregnant surrogate. She says she's busy. "When you get a chance?" "Sam: "Yeah, it might be a while." She rattles off all that she has to do. Luka: "Can you help with any of that?" to Inez the new nurse. Inez looks at him like he has two heads and so does Sam. Luka leaves. ***** I hate CrAbby. She's such a beyotch!!!! THAT BITCH!!!! Nosy CrAbby sticking her beak in Luka's business again. Too bad he tells her Sam's moving out. I could see the slut's radar coming up. A: "If you wanna talk about it..." Luka: "If I did she probably wouldn't be moving out." Bitchy: "Thanks Luka. I always thought it was my fault about us. Now I know it was you." She was trying to be funny but it wasn't. Luka did see the humor, but it was nice to see him make a snarky face at her first. ***** Nice little scene with Luka and Alex. Alex seemed to be okay with Luka. They shot a couple of baskets while Luka waited for the squad. Luka: "Maybe the apartment will be close enough that you can walk to my place." Alex looking and sounding disappointed: "No, it's just a couple of blocks from here." Luka looking disappointed. "You know it's her idea." Alex nods. As as the squad rolls up, Luka tosses the ball back to Alex and says: "We can still go camping again on your birthday." Alex perking up: "Really?" "Yeah." Maybe Alex already has come to terms with his old man's wicked ways and is again seeing Luka for the good guy that he's always been to him. It's things like this that still give me hope for Luka and Sam to work things out later. ***** It wasn't CrAbby's place to tear up the postcard that Jake sent. What a jacka$$ she is. ***** Nice scene with Ray and Coburn. It's not often that she seems so compassionate. Ray truly just made me like him more staying with the sick newborn, saying that he had a rough day and shouldn't spend his first night in the world alone. Very touching. ***** I actually liked the Pratt/family scene at the pool. I do like Danny Glover so that helps. ***** Poor Luka, coming home to the dark apartment with no one there. Back to his old pal long neck. ***** Much better episode than I had expected. ***** Oh! How good it's going to be to see Luka and Eve go head to head. She's gonna piss him off to no end for sure!

Lubasha Visnjic: FrancisJMAAB 09/30/2005 10:49am I can't believe I didn't even notice that Susan was gone...what the heck happened there? They don't even mention her or anything....like, hey, where's Susan?. Strange. She must have went off to be with baby Cosmo. Why didn't they have that guy stick around...Abby's love interest last season...I can't remember his name. Jake, I think. I wonder why she is single, perhaps someone else will come into the picture? Luka? I wish Luka would just get over Sam, I hate that she is hurting the hot foreign doctor....god, that bugs me more than anything. I still don't like Rocker doc...god, I'm so lost on names today. Since when to ER doctor's go down to labor and delivery and start yelling at patients? Usually they just go about their business, because there are OTHER PATIENTS...and what he said to those potential parents, that was way out of line. He used his emotions and let that get in the way of what was really happening. And they are jerks for just leaving this poor little baby, even if he has brain damage..who cares? That urks me. Okay, I'm done ranting. A good episode. I want Luka to find someone, this heartache is killing me! -------------------------------------------- theunexpected00 09/30/2005 12:42pm "Nobody's Baby" is one of the best episode's ive seen in a long long long long long time! ----------------------------- cleopica 09/30/2005 1:06pm 1. Abby and Neela: they were the best, hands down. They really cracked me up and they play amazingly well off of one another. 2. Ray: My heart really went out to him when he was sitting there with the baby. Maybe this will make him a bit more mature. Did not like the scene with him yelling at her. I could understand why he was gettting so upset (and I have 2 kids and I was warned long before I delivered I might have had to have a c section) but I though she was selfish. 3. Baby: Ok, I cried for almost an hour after the ep was over. That was really tragic. 4. Pratt: Great ep for him and his dad. I think we will be definitely be seeing a lot of this new family. But was it me or was his stepmom a real piece of work. Quite cold, wasn't she? 5. Morris: Acting quite competent as chief from last week, checking charts and such. It will be interesting to see that now he is a regular character how far he will step up. 6. No Kerry again. Bummer. But we have her next week. Yay! 7. That little scene with Luka and Abby. I laughed. He smiled! It was a good thing that she did. Hey, maybe the writers are trying to tell us something? (Hearing a big thud as Speddoc faints in CA.) And finally: Sam and Luka. Ok Sam, you need a helicopter to be dropped on you. Right now. I'll even do it. No one would have to pay me. I mean, you WANTED this, and now you are sulking and acting like a little b #@#$. And she was QUITE unprofessional to Luka. I mean, it's not like he cheated on you. You totalled his car, probably let him pay for everything on the way to Colorado and you still treat him like a dog. Oh, I hope Luka you find someone who will love you and give you the life that you deserve. If the writers dont do this, seriously I wont be watching anymore. Too painful. Reall have had it now. Put him with Neela, I dont care!! Jerry is a good possibility, maybe Pratt. Pratt definitely. They both love video games.

Lubasha Visnjic: ronathan Loyal Viewer Sep 29, 2005 @ 09:08 PM Woman: "I want a second opinion." Abbey: "You have a possible broken ankle, and you're a bitch." Abby, there are times when I love you to death. -------------------------- lisl Channel Surfer Sep 29, 2005 @ 10:03 PM Here's hoping that Luka and Sam are dead, never to be seen together again, after tonight. Someone should tell Linda Cardellini that she projects more than enough bitchiness on screen without throwing her arm up in the air dismissively when she's stomping away from another character. The end of the world must be near. I actually thought Shane West did a good job in that last scene with the baby. ---------------------------- VaNotSoSlim Couch Potato Sep 29, 2005 @ 10:23 PM wait -- Abby and Neela rocked. SW actually did a decent job tonight. (except don't yell at a woman in the middle of a difficult delivery, Jerk. Sheesh) COBURN!!! Welcome back, Janet. ------------------------ AmarettoSour Couch Potato Sep 29, 2005 @ 10:26 PM I agree with those who said Abby and Neela were awesome today! I've been defending the Luka/Sam romance for awhile, but at this point, it really needs to end. I'm just tired of it....I'd rather see Luka brooding alone like he was at the end of the episode (and would even prefer to see him spiral back into his agitated depression) than to have to endure this see-saw romance story that has gone absolutely nowhere, IMO. Okay, there have been a couple good moments with the romance, but overall it is annoying. I don't care what they do; just do something else. Couldn't really get into the Pratt story tonight. I found myself cleaning whenever he was on the screen. eta: Oh yeah, Alex.....I thought the other Alex was a great actor and I liked the character of Alex most of the time......this new one absolutely sucks, though. So far, anyway. ------------------

Lubasha Visnjic: memememe76 Fanatic Sep 30, 2005 @ 03:39 AM I thought the episode was generally quite good. Loved Abby and Neela, loved that poor girl getting all that different advice, and thought Ray was terrific. Only real downside is Luka and Sam. And Luka needs a haircut. ------------------------ Schwarzstrom Channel Surfer Sep 30, 2005 @ 07:20 AM I really liked Ray this ep, but then, I'm easy. Luka, cut that hair. Right now. ------------------- aptpupil99 Couch Potato Sep 30, 2005 @ 07:27 AM Not a horrible episode. There's certainly been many better episodes, but it was a far cry from the worst. Was surprised not to see Sherry Stringfield in the credits at the beginning, since I thought this would be her last episode. I guess they just edited her out. -------------- yttap Posted: September 30 2005 this episodes was 100 times better than last weeks. abby and neela love um. they are partners n crime. lol beg. when morris says "i am chief" and abby says i think "yeah chief pain in the ass" hahahaha. crack me up i agree, this new alex sucks SOOOOOOOOO bad. i mean its just so hard to explain he's just bad bad bad. ----------------------- missa Carbyholic Posted: September 30 2005 Luckily, I got all my laughs out of my system at the taping since this was an especially intense and depressing ER. You can't get much sadder than an injured surrogate mother who gives birth to a baby with toxic brain defects, causing the new parents to not want it anymore. Nice to see Amy Aquino back guesting on the show, but this was the second episode in a row without Kerry Weaver. At least Laura Innes directed it. Interesting how Sam and Luka chose to spend time away from each other, therefore giving Goran Visnjic more screen time with Maura Tierney, which hasn't happened in ages.

Lubasha Visnjic: Dear Abby Posted: September 30 2005 I was so happy with this episode, especially after last week's whatever that was! Abby's intern, Munson, does look like the guy from the lab that Neela was working with. They could have recast him in this role. What is up with him, btw? He seemed to say "I know" a lot, but couldn't read an x-ray??? What is that? The new Alex bugs me as well, I keep thinking "Zombie Alex" whenever he shows up. IMHO, the kid who was basically unconscious the whole episode did a better job. MILTF/DILTF had me cracking up, along with Abby's "second opinion" line: "your ankle may be broken, and you're a bitch!" It was great! ------------------------- Pemberley Posted: October 02 2005 I rewatced the scene where Abby quietly peeks at Jake's postcard just as Malik shouts out her name. She jumps and turns around with the greatest expression on her face. LOL! It cracks me up everytime because of MT. She played it perfectly and I immediately thought of Noah and the number of times he's played this kind of scene over the years. It's what made Carter so endearing to me. I miss that Carter. But yes, of all the actors on the show I can't think of any one who could play those moments as perfectly as NW and MT. ------------------------ LineKeKei Posted: October 03 2005 Okay... I finally got around to seeing this episode and I quite enjoyed it. A couple of my thoughts on this epi... Yep. Sam still annoys me to no end. The new Alex: as of right now, I'm indifferent. I loved Ray in this episode, and I think I can truthfully say this is the first time I've ever loved him. Some very nice work from Shane IMO. Loved Neela too... but I wish there had been a bit more screen time for her. Pratt's father storyline was better than I expected and I wouldn't mind seeing a bit more. Plus, Danny Glover rocks. I hate seeing Luka upset. I just wanted to give him a big hug... which really isn't all that relevant since I pretty much always want to give him a big hug because... well, he's Luka. Abby, Abby, Abby. Where do I begin? I love Abby. Loved it when she ripped up Jake's postcard (I cracked up when she was trying to read it too Pemb), loved watching her work on the little boy, loved how confident she was. Maura did a great job with this epi... as usual. I was in stitches watching her in every scene. Especially when she was telling Luka about Liam's diagnosis and kind of looking at him like C'mon. Tell me I'm wonderful. You know I'm wonderful. ------------------------------

Lubasha Visnjic: Jo Keeper of Carby Posted: October 03 2005 The scene with Abby and Luka was...weird! I kinda liked it, and I like that she can finally not blame herself for something. Shows a lot of character growth. And I like that he was comfortable enough to be able to laugh about it with her as friends. It just felt a little random when she suddenly said "thank you Luka", though I guess it made sense in context of the whole conversation/episode. ------------------ Íàñîáèðàëà ñ 8 ôîðóìîâ.
