A lady in the audience asked if DMN was nominated for an Oscar. Then the introducer quickly answered that the movie was submitted, not nominated, and Goran Visnjic then explained how there originally was a director’s cut of 5 1/2 hours, but then it was cut down to 3 hours before submittal to the Oscar nominating committee. And then Mr. V. talked about how his favorite scene was when they watched a tennis match on TV, and he said something like, «that we were watching... and taking time for watching... when really we maybe... shouldn’t be because we were taking time from the film shooting schedule, and we didn’t really have time to take» and then he went on to say something like, «watching it put everyone in a happy mood» and «Everyone was so happy maybe it showed on their faces, even in scenes where maybe they shouldn’t be so happy.» Finally, I want to add that Goran Visnjic looks much MUCH younger in real life than he does on ER. He is much very slimmer looking and far more handsome. His eyes are magnetic. Seeing him that close up was a real shock to the system.

Martha, I could have been knocked over with a feather – he looks so young and slim and handsome. His eyes so intense. Seeing him that close up was a real shock to my system. To be honest the first few questions I was just staring at him. Ha. He really was soft spoken, which I’ve heard from a few people I know who have met and seen him before. If you are sitting where I think you were we were about 3-5 rows behind you guys in the middle section. The first row, center section had no one sitting in it, the second row, center section had the Croatian man with a woman and a couple of teen aged kids (I thought they might be a family group). Margi was the blond while I was the one with all-white hair and a walking cane (but maybe you didn’t see it). You must have taken great photos, Martha, from where you were sitting. Where I was situated, I could only really photograh one pose of him. Remember how he stood so still and calm, holding the mike up to his mouth with his face turned to the right, toward the introducer lady, all of the time that he was answering her questions? So I only got him in profile. He never really broke that pose, except when he turned to answer our questions, but then I was too focused on listening to him to take any more photos. I’ll take them in for developing tomorrow (was too darn tired today). There was one very bold man who had a big digital camera with a huge flash attachment (very professional looking equipment) that was all of the place, snapping pics.

Not to mention he was standing in poor lighting, just one more step forward and to his right it would have been better. That gentleman was very daring, and almost rather annoying. I felt badly for Goran, I almost didn’t even want to take a picture but knew I’d regret it if I didn’t. He’s probably used to the flashes though, I still felt badly for taking pics. Hmm...I was sitting in a row with an older Croatian man next to me (hearing him talk made me laugh, actually hearing most of the people there talk gave me a kick-- in a good way!) and then a little girl next to him and the mother next to him. I asked my roommate and she thinks were like 7-10 so I think I was under/overshooting where we sat.

Lubasha Visnjic: 9 серия от Мораны THE NINETH EPISODE The war is finally over and now the partisans have to build the new republic, which they fought for in the first place. Iva and Vera transformed their high positions in partisan hierarchy to high positions in this new government and society. Iva is close to becoming a minister of Agronomy (in the meanwhile he finished his studies) in this new government. They also got a new, big and expensive house that Iva hates (the fact that he didn’t earn this house and that it once belonged to Jews that died in holocaust, really bothers him) and Vera loves (she thinks that they earned this house while fighting and endangering their lifes in the war for four years; and as for Jews, her opinion is that they ware killed by Ustasas and that there is nothing that they can or could do about that; they certainly can’t get them beck their house). Iva is very disappointed with a new order of things, and, as he is not afraid to speak up, OZNA (government’s spying organization) starts to consider him a threat; they start spying on him and eavesdropping his telephone conversation. Joka, Vera’s brother is on a high position in OZNA and he is able to do anything for his career even if that means spying his brother in law. He tries to convince Vera to help them spy on Iva by contacting them immediately when she notices anything suspicious about his behavior. She refuses to have anything to do with them spying on her husband but she is also worried that he may do something foolish and endanger their just obtained reputation and high positions in society. She and Iva are having difficulties in their marriage, and that’s mostly because of their different points of view about crucial life issues. Iva is an idealist, he believes in Marks’s ideal society, but not in the way Yugoslavian communist government is interpreting it. In this episode we see the first indications of Spanac being an awful hypocrite (in the next few episodes we meet his true character). In one scene he is telling Iva how much he appreciates him as a friend and as a true and rare intellectual, he is also expressing (what seams to be) an honest consider for Iva’s future if he doesn’t watch more carefully what he is saying in public and in front of important people. But in the following scene he is, with no signs of regret plotting with Joka and the Major of OZNA a way to restrain Iva. We also see the indications that Spanac and Vera had a romantic relationship before she married Iva.
Lubasha Visnjic: продолжение 9 серии Back in Iva’s village all remaining Volksdeutschers are being forced to leave country. This is a big injustice because these people are parents and family of those men that fought and died within the Ernest Thellman’s squad, an antifascist, partisan squad (all Volksdeutschers that ware with the Nazis in the war immigrated when the Nazis ware retreating from the country). A very touching moment is when Barthol’s (a young men that Iva and Mata saved in the first episode while he was beaten from the other Volksdeutschers because of his antifascist beliefs – later on he was one of the most distinguished members of E.T. squad and died in that German invasion shown in sixth episode) mother comes to say goodbye to her loving neighbors (Iva’s family) and cries over her unfortunate faith. Iva, who was also there to hear her sad story, runs out in a rage and tries to do something to stop this terrible injustice, but he finds out from one of his superiors that they have strict orders that came from the top of the partisan hierarchy and that nothing can be done. Devastated, he walks away while his neighbors are forming a long line along the road with their belongings loaded in wagons. Suddenly he sees something that drowns his attention. He recognizes Alojz (Josephs and Elza’s father), now an old man with a two terrifying holes instead of eyes, being terrorized by one partisan solider. Iva decides that, while he isn’t able to stop this forced immigration in general, he will save one men. Iva: What is going on here? Putt that rifle away! Soilder: Sir, this German is refusing to pack his belongings and join the rest of his people. Iva: Do you have a clue who this man is?! Soilder: I was told that he was the father of one cruelest Nazi officer! Iva(here we finally find out what happened with Elza and her son): Well they ware wrong! His grandson was just a boy when he died in German invasion, his daughter fought with partisans and probably died in one of the German concentration camps! Now, get the hell out of here before I suspend you and leave this man alone!!! Soilder: Yes sir! Iva talks with Alojz and finds out that he is mentally in a pretty bad shape. He is living in denial; he refuses to believe that his grandson, that he was so close with, is dead. The only thing that keeps him going is a faith that he will eventually come back. In the end of this scene a text that reads: “At the end of the war the communist government exiled all of German ancestry out of Yugoslavia.” appeared on the black background.
Lubasha Visnjic: An immigration of Volksdeutschers is not the only change in the lifes of the Slavonian villagers. They are forced to join communist co-operatives; their wealthy stables ware unloaded (their cattle and crops ware confiscated) and their land become the public property. They ware given some kind of coupons to help them buy only the necessities. This was indescribably humiliating for the proud people of Slavonia. For centuries this was the wealthiest part of Croatia thanks to uncommonly fruitful earth and, most importantly, honest and hardworking people. All of this fell really hard on Iva’s father. He was the last villager that refused to join the co-operatives. The others refused too, but he was Iva’s father so the local authorities went easy on him, but it was obvious that soon or later he will have to join them. He fell in to deeper and deeper depression until he finally decided to end his life. Iva was the one to find him hanging in the barn. The last scene in episode was terrifying scene in which Iva finds his father hanging in their empty stable. - Morana

The Ministry of Culture for over 56 years organizes this award as the most important state award for art accomplishments in Republic of Croatia. The categories are: - Literature award - Music award - Art in general (painting, sculpting and so on) - Film award (the winner in this category is Goran Visnjic for acting accomplishment in Duga Mracna Noc) - Theater award - Architecture and urbanism award The awards will be handed over to it's winners on 19. 6. in Dverce palace in Zagreb This is certainly a great accomplishment! P.S. Lubasha Visnjic: Сегодня я посмотрела церемонию награждения этой премии. Спасибо онлайн-сайту хорват. тв. Церемония проходила во дворце Загреба и была сдержанна и официальна. Награждал лауреатов сам министр культуры Хорватии. Горан был одет очень по-летнему в голубой рубашке и в светлых штанах, на груди висели очки. Он сидел на первом ряду , как и другие лауреаты. Но из-за того, что сзади была камера, ему пришлось сгорбиться, чтобы ей дать снимать.\ бедняжка.\ Был один без Иваны. Очень напоминает нашу премию "Триумф". Но в отличие от нашей недавней премии,эту дают уже 56 лет каждый год за выдающиеся достижения в области культуры Хорватии. единственное пока фото я нашла здесь click here ps. очень уж он загорел.
