12.05 "Wake Up"

Lubasha Visnjic: From MrsV http://mrsviw.blogspot.com/ Full spoilers: Teaser: Ray follows Weaver, giving out flyers while they walk. Weaver gives Abby a patient who’s vomiting blood. Abby says, “My specialty”, and heads off. She tries giving Ray a patient, but he says he’s doing his tox elective. He’s just there to hand out flyers, reminding everybody about his gig tonight. Jerry takes one of the fliers, reads it, and says, “The Pogo Lounge?” Morris thinks it’s a strip club. Ray says that it’s behind the Lava Lounge, which used to be known as the Aqua Lounge. Ray sees Neela, calls her “Roomie”, and asks if she’s going to go. She says it’s why she wakes up in the morning. Ray and Neela walk away. We stay with Morris, who’s handing out charts to 2 college students named Rosie and Marshall. They’re wearing lab coats. He gives them a chart, but they tell him that they’re not really doctors. Pratt says, “What’s with the Halloween costume?”

Lubasha Visnjic: Pages later, Beck says, “I thought everyone was digital”. He compliments Sam, telling her she did a nice job on shaving his chest hair for V1 and V2. However, it took 24 minutes to get his vitals; they can do better than that. Morris joins the scene and agrees that they can do better. He introduces himself (not forgetting to add that he’s Chief Resident, of course). Beck says that it usually takes him 10 minutes to find the “kiss ass” but at least they’re breaking records somewhere. Morris ignores the comment; Pratt laughs. Neela joins the group at this point. Beck says the EKG was prompt but the resident’s eval was “dangerously inadequate”. Pratt counters that it was busy and Beck seemed…Beck interrupts, saying that County’s an inner-city trauma center. It’s chaotic there. Suddenly, a crazy woman in a rainbow-wigged afro runs by with a cigarette. She screams that it’s hot and she needs a doctor and a light. Beck looks at the woman, then turns back to the group. Abby joins in at this point. Beck tells them that he knows they don’t have time to spend hours with each patient. However, the goal is efficiency and excellence. Pages later, Abby tells Beck, “That’s what the textbooks say”. Beck replies that if we relied on textbooks, we’d still think that the Native Americans gave New York to the Pilgrims. Beck goes to the ventilator and adjusts the settings. Then he asks if they saw the reports from the ARDS network in the New England Journal. They all give him a blank stare, so he tells them that if they lower the tidal volume by a certain amount, they decrease mortality rates. “Twirl a knob and save a life. Let’s go”. The patient, Marta, thanks Beck. A note says that Abby rolls her eyes. Morris turns to Beck and compliments his shoes. Beck tells him that he’s wearing Adidas. The next patient they see is Oslow, an older Russian-American. He’s wearing a mask. Morris gives the bullet: the patient has fever and night sweats. There’s no obvious source. Beck, who speaks Russian perfectly, says how are you, and tells Oslow that he’ll be out of there soon. Then Beck turns to Neela and asks for her diagnostic approach. Morris answers that they should do a skin test for TB and Cocci. As Beck checks Oslow, Pratt notices Dorsey Thomas, 30ish, pacing near the desk. He breaks away from the group and walks over. Pratt addresses Dorsey by name. Dorsey greets Pratt, telling him that he hasn’t seen Pratt since his 4th year. Pratt asks what he’s doing there – last he heard, Dorsey was doing plastic surgery in Winnetka. He says he still is, but one of his patients got a half-price tummy tuck and you can guess the rest. The patient’s upstairs. We hear Beck (off-screen) saying, “Hey killa. Let’s go! We’ve got patients to clear!” Pratt tells Dorsey that he’s gotta go, and Dorsey says he’ll talk to him before he leaves. Cut to Luka with Blaire (the coma woman from a previous episode). This is the part where he calls Blaire’s fiancée and gives the phone to her:

Lubasha Visnjic: Luka’s on the phone. Blaire’s anxious, so Luka tells her to relax. This’ll be weird for Jason, her fiancé. Dr. Shulansky drops by, so Luka gives the phone to Blaire and tells her to take a deep breath. The docs stand in the doorway, with Luka keeping an eye on Blaire. Shulansky wants to know what’s going on, so Luka tells him that she’s calling Jason. We hear Blaire introducing herself on the phone and asking for Jason. Luka tells Shulansky that Blaire’s doing great. Shulansky says he’s amazed by her progress – he’s been treating her for 4 years and all of a sudden…this. We hear Blaire on the phone, saying, “Hi…Yeah, it’s really me”. Luka says that it’s not everyday that someone comes out of a vegetative state. Shulansky explains that Blaire seemed to be aware of her surroundings (when she was in a coma) and could say yes and nod appropriately on occasion. We see Blaire nervously twisting the phone cord while she talks. Luka asks what Shulansky’s treating her with, and Shulansky replies that he’s using an experimental cocktail of fluoxitine, sinemet and dextroamphetamine. Luka tells him that Blaire’s asking about the accident. Shulansky tells Luka not to talk to Blaire about it. Luka doesn’t understand, so Shulansky tells him that the crash “was…violent to say the least”. We hear Blaire say, “Oh. That’s great. Congratulations”. Shulansky explains that Blaire and her Mom were carjacked. He gives Luka the file and tells him that Blaire’s Mom was raped and shot. He says that Blaire tried to fight the carjackers and was brutally pistol-whipped. She would’ve been killed, but someone pulled up. Luka thinks she has the right to know, but Shulansky argues that Blaire’s fragile, and telling her might reverse her progress. He thinks she needs to hear this at the right time, from someone who’s close to her. Luka says she has no family. Shulansky says that he’ll tell her, but later. He leaves, and we hear Blaire say, “Sure. No, I understand”. When Luka walks over to her, she tells him that Jason couldn’t talk right now, but will call her back. She thinks he sounded good.

Lubasha Visnjic: Cut to a frustrated Abby with Neela, Beck, and Malik. They’re with a patient named Margo– a teenager who’s obese. Abby tells Beck that Margo has recurrent headaches and has no history of migraines. Beck says that Margo has a history of intracranial hypertension. Margo says that they take out some spinal fluid whenever she gets a headache. Beck says they don’t do that anymore. Neela says, “We don’t?” Beck explains why, then tells them that heparin is the treatment of choice. Malik gives some eyedrops to Beck, and Beck tells Margo what to do. Abby tells Beck that the patient still needs an LP. Beck says, “Not too fast. Annals of Emergency Medicine, May 2000…Abby guesses 5, Neela guesses 3, but Margo correctly guesses 2004. Beck tells them that intraocular pressure correlates with intracranial pressure. He touches her eye with something called a tonopen, and it beeps. He tells them that he’s now made a diagnosis and tells Margo that she doesn’t need a spinal tap. Margo turns to Abby and Neela and tells them, “That’s why you nurses need doctors. Because they know what they’re doing.” A note says that Margo flirtatiously puts her leg on Beck’s knee. He uses both hands to remove her leg. Haleh pokes her head in and tells Abby that Oncology’s on the phone for her. Abby whispers to Neela that if she ever says “he’s” hot again, Abby will kneecap her. Haleh says that one of the patients is freaking out. Pages later, Abby tells someone named Stephanie that Maggie’s sister wasn’t that lucky. Neither was her grandma. Stephanie asks about Abby. She says she hasn’t had a mammogram because she’s too scared. Stephanie says she should have one. Abby knows. She leaves, and we cut to… A paramedic with a patient named Tony Dejesus, 30ish. Beck, Rosie and Marshall join the paramedic. The patient has a single stab wound to the neck. He has good vitals and has no trouble breathing. Morris and a nurse join the group. Rosie notes the time of arrival and asks the paramedic if the case is gang-related. Tony says his wife stabbed him. Morris asks why, and Tony says that his wife’s a “psycho bitch”. Beck asks the nurse to get some residents. Marshall notes the time at which they entered the trauma room. Beck asks Morris, “Who are these people?” As Beck tries to get away from Rosie and Marshalll, we cut to… Blaire in the cafeteria, drinking a milkshake. She doesn’t seem happy. Luka asks her if she’s OK. She jokes around, then explains that the woman who answered the phone was Jason’s wife. They have 2 kids and live in suburban NJ. She says that Jason was a city guy. She laughs nervously and says that the hard part is that everything has gone on and she still feels like she and Jason were just finalizing their guest list last week. Luka thinks that Jason stayed by her for as long as he could. Blaire tells him that according to Shulansky, Jason visited her twice. Luka explains that it must’ve been hard for Jason to see her lying there like that. She says it’s no wonder he wanted them to write their own wedding vows; he probably wanted to take out the “in sickness and in health” part. Luka asks her if she wanted Jason to spend the rest of his life hoping she’d come out of something that everyone said wouldn’t happen. Blaire jokes that maybe she can be [Jason’s] mistress”. Luka smiles.

Lubasha Visnjic: At some point after that, Pratt says he doesn’t think the surgeons would explore an asymptomatic guy with a superficial wound. Tony asks them to hurry – his wife’s going to burn his truck. Beck tells Tony that next time, he shouldn’t sleep with his mother-in-law. Tony says, “You seen her mother? Then don’t criticize”. Beck says that they need to be aware of indications for immediate exploration. Tony rolls his eyes. Beck asks Morris what he thinks. Morris says “Airway compromise, severe hemorrhage or expanding hematoma”. Pratt says Tony doesn’t have any of that. Tony insists that they let him go, then. Beck argues that they can always learn from the case. He asks Pratt for the components of selective management in neck injuries. Tony tells Pratt to keep it short: “don’t go all Al Sharpton on his ass”. Pratt, annoyed at Beck, gives some answers. Beck says, “Don’t be so sure”. Then he asks Neela what proportion of zone 2 vascular injuries are asymptomatic. Neela says that with a significant injury, Tony should be bleeding or have a hematoma. Pratt says Tony’s stable. Beck thinks he may not be. About 9% of asymptomatic patients have a lesion found on angiography that needs surgical repair. What about that, Dr. Pratt? Pratt says he has an asthma patient waiting for him. Pratt heads for the door. Tony asks him where he’s going, and Haleh says there is no asthma patient. Pratt retorts that the patient probably went out for a smoke. He’ll find the patient. While Pratt (who’s annoyed) leaves, Tony asks if he can go as well – he needs to smoke. Pratt’s in the hallway now. He passes Sam, who’s talking to Eve on the phone while putting up a “Scrub or Rub” poster on the wall. She tells Eve that she put up the sanitizing dispensers. Pages later, Ray tells Jerry (on the phone) that he’s still bored. How’s it going in the ER? Jerry tells him that they have a new Attending who’s able to clear the board “faster than a speeding bullet”. Ray asks if they have any drug-related cases. Jerry tells him there are a few traumas coming in. A paramedic wheels in a 7-year-old patient named Lola who has a crush injury. Neela and Pratt take the case. Neela asks what crushed Lola, and the paramedic says the next patient did. Pratt asks Lola to move her legs. She can’t. Jerry tells Ray that the patient’s injury doesn’t seem drug-related. Jerry’s interrupted by the next patient, who’s screaming like crazy. His name is Tommy Binatti (30ish), and he’s screaming that he’s king of the world. Rosie, Marshall, and Morris are there, and Morris tells Tommy that he must’ve forgotten how to fly. The paramedic says that Tommy stood up while on a ride at a fair. Tommy’s singing, “I believe I can fly. Little girl won’t you touch my thigh…” Yuck. Ray asks if Tommy took drugs. Jerry replies that he thinks the patient must’ve hit his head. Ray thinks otherwise and says he’ll be right there.

Lubasha Visnjic: Cut to Tommy rambling. Sam, Morris, Rosie and Marshall are with him. Morris is trying to check Tommy’s eyes, but Tommy’s fighting him. Tommy says Morris looks like an alien; he doesn’t want Morris to “probe” him. Sam pleads for Morris to sedate Tommy, but Morris wants to assess Tommy’s neuro status first. Haleh pops in and tells them that she’s taking the hemocue. Rosie elbows Tommy and says, “This is cool”. Haleh takes the hemocue and goes back to Lola’s trauma room. A tech has already taken his X-rays and is leaving. Dorsey pops his head in as Pratt does an ultrasound. Dorsey says he’s leaving. Pratt asks him if he’s afraid of blood. A note says that Dorsey gets closer and we can see that he’s out of his element. Neela tells Lola to squeeze her hands; she does. At this moment, an alarm sounds. Dorsey tells Pratt (I think) that he’s got skillz. Pratt thinks Lola may have spinal shock with a high thoracic injury. Is that right? Dorsey replies that he’s way out of his league. Starting at the waist, Pratt pokes Lola with a needle, telling her to let him know if she feels it. He gets to her upper chest and that’s when she says she can feel it. Pratt medical jargons, and Dorsey compliments him some more. A roach runs across the floor, and Dorsey squashes it. Pratt tells him that he just killed their mascot. Lola vomits and they move to help her. Dorsey tells Pratt that some of their university buddies are getting together tonight. Does he want to join them? Pratt says he’ll try to be there. Sam yells (through the door) that they need Pratt. NOW. Pratt tells Neela to find out what’s going on in Tommy’s room. Neela goes next door as Tommy screams. Morris is trying to put in a subclavian while Sam and a tech hold Tommy down. Morris warns Tommy that if he doesn’t stay still, he’s going to put the needle through his heart. Tommy’s still laughing hysterically. Neela tells Morris that they have to sedate and paralyse. Morris says he would if he had a line (Tommy pulled out his IV). Tommy wisecracks, “Since when did Alfred E. Newman become a doctor?” Neela prepares to help and asks if they used versed. Sam replies that they did but it had no effect. Ray enters and asks Morris if they know what Tommy took. Morris thinks Tommy took either coke or ice. Ray says, “Dude, what are you on?” Tommy replies, “Her in a minute”. Sam ignores him. Morris is still trying to insert a line but he can’t seem to find a vein. Neela wants to try. Sam screams for Pratt. In Lola’s trauma room, Pratt and Haleh are trying to help Lola. Sam says Tommy’s unstable and they need help getting a line in. Pratt says he’s busy. Sam tells him that they need help, so Pratt tells her to get Beck.

Lubasha Visnjic: Back to Tommy’s trauma room. Neela can’t get a line in either. Neela asks if there are any other attendings on, and Morris tells her Beck’s the only one. Neela thinks they can do this on their own. She’s going to do a femoral cutdown. Sam asks Neela if she’s serious. Neela replies that Tommy needs access. As the alarms beep louder, Tommy laughs harder. As they prep, Beck walks in. He sarcastically says he didn’t know they had a trauma. Maybe his pager isn’t working. He looks at his pager, then says, “Oh, no, it’s working”. Morris gives him the bullet on Tommy: 20 foot fall complicated by an unknown drug. Neela says they’re doing a femoral cutdown. Beck tells everyone to take a breath. Then he tells Sam to get his briefcase – he left it at Admit. As Sam runs to get it, Tommy says, “Banana cheese!” Beck wants to know what Tommy took. Ray guesses it’s sympathomimetic. Beck thinks it’s a bad guess – he thinks it’s an anticholinergic. He asks Morris for the results of the electrolytes test, then says Tommy took skittles. It’s a very popular drug now – it’s over-the-counter cold meds with dextromethrophan hydrogen bromide. Tommy screams and manages to break out of his C-collar. Ray suggests they give something to Tommy so that he can calm down, so Beck gives out an order. Neela reminds Beck that they still need access. Sam enters with Beck’s briefcase. As Ray administers a drug, Beck tells Tommy to close his eyes and go to his happy place. At this point, Beck opens his briefcase and pulls out a little box with a screen prop. Rosie asks at what time did the chem panel come back, and Morris replies that Tommy has weird anatomy – they couldn’t find the subclavian. Beck places the probe on Tommy’s chest and says he’s found the vein. The probe allows them to cannulate the vein under direct visualization. Neela thinks it’s cool. Sam asks if he carries that probe around with him all the time. Beck says it’s a demo model; he holds the patent. He has Neela hold the probe while he works on the line. He gets one in. Beck tells Ray that it looks like they didn’t need a beta blocker after all. He trusts that Ray can finish up. 2 pages later and we’re in Act 3. Pratt, Neela and Haleh are walking towards the elevator with Lola and Tommy. Haleh tells Pratt that a report’s been called in to the PICU. Pratt says great, then turns to Neela and says that he told her to call Beck. What was she thinking? Tommy looks at Neela and tells her that he loves her. Neela tells him to Shut. Up. The elevator doors open, and Dubenko wheels his way off as Lola and Tommy are loaded on. Pratt says, “What’s up?” Dubenko replies, “Thankfully, everything”. Neela says she’s happy to hear that he’s doing well. He says he’s happier. He sees Abby and calls out to her. As Dubenko wheels his way towards Admit, Pratt turns to Neela, all curious. She tells him that she thinks Dubenko had prostate cancer. Much later, Steph tells someone named Lou, “You came?” Lou says he just heard what happened. He’s been trying to see her. Steph has tears in her eyes. She invites Lou in. As Abby walks down the hall, she notices a clerk at the Nurses’ Station. She smiles at her, then walks to the elevator. As she waits, she turns back and looks at the clerk again; she decides to go back. Abby asks if she can schedule an outpatient mammogram. Sure she can. Who’s it for? It’s for Abby. Cut to Sam at the Admit desk. Weaver walks up to her and asks her who put up the “Scrub or Rub” posters. Sam says she did; Eve wants to decrease nosocomial infections. Weaver’s fine with that. She thinks Sam could learn a lot from Eve and Beck. Weaver looks around and asks Sam if she’s seen her med students.

Lubasha Visnjic: Much later, we have this previously spoiled conversation between Luka and Blaire: The hospital rooftop at night. They’re looking at the skyline. He tells her that she only has 5 minutes, and then he’s bringing her back inside. She asks him to bring her to the edge. He says that if she tells Shulansky that he’s doing this, he’ll deny it. She says, “So will I”. He tells her he’s being serious – what they’re doing is bad. He pushes her to the wall, but Blaire can’t see anything. She asks him to pick her up. He refuses. She says, “Come on, we got this far. Don’t wuss out now”. She tries to lift herself up. He calls her name, but she ignores him. He reluctantly helps her. She points at a building and tells him that she used to live there. Her Mom saved for years so that they could move from the South Side. She asks where he lives. He points to where he is, but says she can’t see it from where they are and begs her to sit down. There’s a gust of wind, and Luka covers Blaire with his jacket. Blaire closes her eyes, enjoying her moment outside. He says that he should really bring her back. She asks him if he’s always been a worrier. He responds that he’s always had something to worry about. Luka “studies” Blaire while she looks around. She asks him if he thinks God’s responsible for her waking up from the coma. He says he doesn’t know. She says he probably thinks it was science. He replies that he’s seen deeply religious people come into the hospital and prayer did nothing for them. He’s also seen sceptics have miraculous recoveries. Blaire asks if he thinks it’s fate. He says he thinks he’s glad they’re both there, able to wonder about it. Blaire smiles and nods. Cut to Pratt at Cease Fire. He’s looking for Olivia. As he walks in the hallway, he sees Charlie Pratt standing in front of a room full of young black teenage men. Charlie says he hears what they’re saying, but they sound like a bunch of knuckleheads. It seems he’s talking to them about practicing safe sex and the consequences should they choose not to do so. After awhile, Charlie says getting a girl pregnant is equivalent to 18 years in lockdown. Having a kid at their age isn’t worth it. Pratt tries to walk away but bumps the door. Charlie turns and sees Pratt walking away.

Lubasha Visnjic: Cut to this previously spoiled scene: Blaire asks Luka if he misses Croatia. He says he still has family there, but there are more opportunities for him in Chicago. He likes Chicago. After some more chit-chat, she explains that the reason she keeps asking about the accident is because she keeps having flashes that don’t add up. He asks her about the flashes, and she replies that she remembers being scared. In flashback mode, there’s a blurry vision. Blaire says that they had just gotten coffee. We hear gunshots, then smoke. She says that she remembers seeing her Mom’s face. We see a young Blaire falling face down on the pavement. Blaire says that her Mom was petrified. We see Blaire looking under the car and seeing a hand. She remembers hearing her Mom scream, but it’s muffled by the radio. We see the hand pull away, leaving a puddle of blood. Blaire says that there was blood and laughter – a lot of laughter. At first she thought it was all a dream, but the images are clear. Luka tells her that he thinks she needs to sit down. She continues, saying that something else happened that night, but she’s confused. She’s trying to figure out what it is. Luka wants to know what she’s trying to figure out. She says, “Me to help…I need truth…understand”. A note says that a look of fear spreads across Luka’s face. Pages later and we’re in Act 4. Abby’s running through the hospital, trying to get to the pharmacy. She pounds on the door and says she needs help. She says she needs fluoxitine, sinemet and dextro-amphetamine. The pharmacy tech asks her to write down what she just said. She pushes the tech aside. The tech asks if she’s crazy. Cut to Luka checking Blaire’s reflexes while Beck looks at the lab results. Weaver’s on the phone. Pages later, Olivia tells Pratt that she had some work to finish up. Pratt says that she should’ve told him. She apologizes. Dorsey’s sitting at the table with his blonde girlfriend, Rachel, “surrounded by a group of black professionals”. Dorsey greets Pratt, saying, “You made it”. Pratt says, “I said I would”. Dorsey asks if Pratt remembers Charlene, who’s 30ish and gorgeous. She hugs Pratt. Pratt asks her where she lives now, and she says she lives in Baltimore and works in Radiology at Hopkins. Next up to greet Pratt is Lyndon. He gave up being a lawyer for “flipping houses”. Olivia waits to be introduced. It doesn’t happen, so she introduces herself, saying she’s Greg’s friend. Dorsey says to Pratt, “Is that the kind of bedside manners they teach at County?”

Lubasha Visnjic: Cut to Luka, Weaver, and Beck treating Blaire. Luka administers the fluoxitine. Weaver wants Blaire to go to CT now, but Luka says he’ll do it as soon as he gets a portable monitor. Luka rubs Blaire’s breastbone while Malik gets the monitor and hooks Blaire up. She opens her eyes, but she looks like she’s in a daze. Luka notes that Blaire’s responsive to pain. Weaver says Blaire has incomprehensible verbal activity. Alarms sound, and Blaire starts to seize. No matter what they do, Blaire continues to seize. Beck asks if Blaire has a history of seizures. Luka says no. Beck tells Luka that an overdose of anything Luka gave her could precipitate a seizure. Luka replies that other factors like withdrawal or falling drug levels could have the same effect. Weaver injects some Ativan. Luka wants to inject more. Cut to the Pogo Lounge. Ray walks out with someone named Zoe who’s 20ish and hot. Zoe likes the last song the group played. Ray says the song’s called Blood Wine. She wants to know why he chose that title, and he says he cut his finger opening a bottle of Merlot. Ray asks if she and her friends are heading home. Zoe suggestively says that she doesn’t know what her friends are doing. Ray asks if she knows what she’s doing. She says she knows what she’d like to do. Ray asks her to hold on to that thought. He has to “settle” with the guys and he’ll be right back. As Ray turns, he sees Jerry, Morris, and Neela. Ray tells them that they’re late – Ray’s band was the opening act. Neela explains that Beck had them pulling Journal articles to justify their treatment of every patient. Jerry asks Ray if he wants to grab something to eat. Ray says he has other plans. Morris looks at Zoe, who smiles at him. Morris asks Ray if his “plans” have any friends. Ray goes over to Zoe, who’s standing there with her friends, including one rocker girl. He introduces “Archie”. Heh. Morris says, “What’s up, ladies? Hungry?” Rocker Girl says they want to meet the band. Morris says he plays the drums. They all laugh as they follow Ray to the stage door. Morris says he’s serious. As he plays the air drums, he says he was in a marching band. They won the nationals! Neela and Jerry just leave Morris standing there. When Morris looks up, he notices everyone’s gone. He starts calling their names. Then he goes back to playing air drums again. What a maroon.

Lubasha Visnjic: Cut to Blaire’s trauma room. Through the window, we see Weaver and Beck speaking to a man in a cheap suit. Abby and Luka are with Blaire, who has an oxygen mask on and is unconscious. Luka squeezes her hand and speaks to her. He asks Blaire to open her eyes. Nothing. Abby thinks that maybe Blaire’s post-ictal. Luka looks at her. Abby says that maybe the Ativan hasn’t worn off. Luka says that maybe he shouldn’t have pushed the meds. Abby tells him that he doesn’t know what caused the seizure. He says that maybe they overloaded her synapses. Abby says there’s no way to tell how she fell back into the coma. Luka says they’ll never know why she came out of it either. Abby’s pager goes off. She tells Luka she has to go and asks if he’s OK. He nods. Abby puts her hand on his shoulder before she leaves. Weaver enters and tells Luka that they just spoke to the State Conservator. He agreed to let them admit Blaire for 48 hours to see if there’s any sign of improvement. If not, then she has to go back to the nursing home. Luka nods. Cut to Ear Candy. A “Spoken Word” artist finishes his/her set. We see Dorsey and Pratt’s table. Pratt looks pissed. Dorsey asks for the waitress. Pratt tells him to forget about the waitress. What does he want? Dorsey says he wants lite beer. Pratt asks if “the lipo doctor’s” afraid of getting love handles. Dorsey replies that Pratt shouldn’t hate him. He [Dorsey] looks good. The following must be for another episode: Teaser. We’re in flashback mode. A note says that it’s touching the way he (Pratt) wipes shards away from his mother’s face. We hear Olivia saying breakfast is burning and she’ll take care of it. The scene ends off Pratt, remembering. Cut to Ray and Neela’s. She’s eating an apple as she buttons her shirt. Ray enters and asks if she’s getting ready for a roast. She says they have to clean up. Ray says Gallant doesn’t come for another 3 days. Neela says it’ll take a week for them to disinfect. He tells her that it’ll be all clean – and vacated – by Wednesday. Then she and Gallant can have the place all to themselves. She sweetly tells Ray that she just wants the place to look nice – Gallant’s been in Iraq for a long time. Ray asks if they’re leaving or what. She runs into the bathroom and is startled to see Zoe there. She’s wearing Ray’s shirt as she brushes her teeth. Zoe introduces herself. Neela says she remembers. Zoe says they have a cool place. Neela tells her that they have thin walls. Zoe giggles. While Neela looks around for her toothbrush, Zoe tells Neela that Ray’s great. Neela says that she can scream that from the rooftops, but Zoe already has. Zoe apologizes. Neela asks her if she’s seen her toothbrush. Looks like Zoe’s using it. Neela tells her not to worry – she has gum. Heh. Neela walks out and asks Ray if he’s leaving Zoe there. Ray says that Zoe has a key. Neela gives him a look, so he explains that Zoe’s different. “There’s something real between us”. Neela: “Yeah. Real loud”. Cut to Admit, where Beck is on the phone. Frank looks on. Beck tells the person on the phone that they have transfer-in policies. I guess the person on the phone asks if they have a NICU because he confirms that they have one.

Lubasha Visnjic: Way, way later, Dubenko says some medical stuff to Beck. As Beck leaves, Dubenko asks Beck, “What did you do?” It seems the wheels on Dubenko’s wheelchair are locked. He asks Beck if he locked the wheels, but Beck doesn’t hear him. A note says, “Robo-Dubenko”, stuck, tilts the monitor and cranes his head over to get an angle. On-screen, he says, “This is very unprofessional”. Cut to Neela with Zoe, who seems sweet and almost shy. Zoe tells Neela that it burns when she pees. Neela thinks she has a bladder infection. She tells Zoe that she can get that from many things. Like having lots of sex, for instance. Zoe says she’s been having a lot of that. Neela: “Don’t I know it”. Zoe says it’s embarrassing and she hopes Neela doesn’t mind – she didn’t want to ask Ray. Neela says it’s fine and tells her that she has to run some tests. She’ll need some info first. We find out that Zoe’s last name is Bennett. Neela asks for her address. Then she asks for Zoe’s date of birth. It turns out that Zoe was born in…1990. Neela looks at her and figures out that Zoe is 14, almost 15. Zoe shrugs, smiles, and says her birthday’s coming up. A note says that the scene ends with Neela “considering the true recklessness of her roomie”. End of Act 2. Somewhere in Act 3: Someone named Meg says that “they” can amaze you – how much “they” can understand. Then she says that she can’t forgive “him”. Pratt says that it can be hard. Meg says that she tries but she can’t. They loved each other a long time before “he” messed things up. One stupid night and a few weeks of lying can destroy something that maybe she can’t get back. Or maybe she’s took weak to get past it. Pratt tells her that just because she hasn’t yet doesn’t mean she never will. Cut to Ray and Neela with Zoe. He asks Zoe why she didn’t tell him. She says she didn’t know. She thought it was a UTI due to all the sex they were having. Ray says he wasn’t talking about that – he was talking about why she never told him hold old she was. She said he never asked. He says that Zoe said she was a student. She says she is – she’s in the 7th grade. She didn’t think he’d like her if he knew. He says she’s right. He also doesn’t like courtrooms, prisons, “and men named Hank who make me their bitch”. She doesn’t understand the Hank part. Neela tells Zoe that she’ll give her a prescription, but she needs to be tested for other STDs. She’s fine with that. Zoe wonders who she got the infection from, and Ray insists it wasn’t him. She says that narrows it down, but…they weren’t being monogamous, were they? Ray’s shocked. He sits down and tells her that they shouldn’t see each other anymore. Zoe: “No. Really?” He says, “Really”. She touches his leg and purrs his name. He removes her hand and says he’s serious. A note says she sulks like a little girl, which she is. Zoe says she knew this would happen. Cut to Pratt, who leaves Meg with a guy named Barry. He goes into another trauma room to check on someone named Paul. Sam’s with Paul. She tells Pratt that Paul’s starting to shiver. He tells her to use Ativan. She asks if Paul’s wife is going to visit, but Pratt says he doesn’t think so. She asks if Paul has a bad marriage. Pratt says, “Not exactly”. Eve enters and asks Sam if she’s ready. Sam doesn’t understand. Eve asks if she’s ready for their pink slip party. Eve has Haleh waiting in the Family Room. Eve leaves. Sam looks at Pratt. Pratt tells her that she can go – he’ll push the meds.
