12.05 "Wake Up"

Lubasha Visnjic: From MrsV http://mrsviw.blogspot.com/ Full spoilers: Teaser: Ray follows Weaver, giving out flyers while they walk. Weaver gives Abby a patient who’s vomiting blood. Abby says, “My specialty”, and heads off. She tries giving Ray a patient, but he says he’s doing his tox elective. He’s just there to hand out flyers, reminding everybody about his gig tonight. Jerry takes one of the fliers, reads it, and says, “The Pogo Lounge?” Morris thinks it’s a strip club. Ray says that it’s behind the Lava Lounge, which used to be known as the Aqua Lounge. Ray sees Neela, calls her “Roomie”, and asks if she’s going to go. She says it’s why she wakes up in the morning. Ray and Neela walk away. We stay with Morris, who’s handing out charts to 2 college students named Rosie and Marshall. They’re wearing lab coats. He gives them a chart, but they tell him that they’re not really doctors. Pratt says, “What’s with the Halloween costume?”

Lubasha Visnjic: Doc Sharon Member (10/20/05 10:25 pm) JL (СИД) is adding a really good energy to the proceedings, he's abrasive, but also right, most of the time. He's really kicked the energy level of the show up a notch, something it really needed, IMO. The scenes with Luka and Blair are interesting, however, the entire situation, with her awakening fully remembering everything right up to the moment of the accident and able to speak in complete and coherent sentences without any obvious neuro deficit is so ridiculous that it's hard to care about the storyline

Lubasha Visnjic: Iczer eh Administrator (10/20/05 11:10 pm) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm feeling for the Dubenko fans right now, wondering how much further their strange but amusing little man can be dragged down by this hideously stupid association with Abby. The patients are better and more sympathetic this year and yet both the major patient arcs felt flat to me tonight. Luka was so sweet and fine with Blaire, but the whole thing was fake-profound, she wakes up long enough for Luka to bond with and conveniently relapses so he can fight with Clemente and beat himself up about her. Bleh.

Lubasha Visnjic: CarterLukaFan Aiaba (10/20/05 11:16 pm) Luka was hot as always. I love Clemente. He really brought something to this episode. I love his energy and his straightforwardness. Great that Neela didn't just crumble when Abby reminded her she had a boyfriend after she had said Clemente was hot. Good to see her stand up for herself. Morris is my comedic hero. Everything involving Abby was just blah. She definitely showed what a big mouth she has by making the comment to Luka about Dubenko. Then being all know it all like she thinks she does, then she proceeded to tell Mastgirl's former date why she was still in the hospital. Very wrong of her to tell the patient's condition to a guy that she had only dated, not a family member even. Way to go, Abby. As much as I love Luka, and in deed it was great to see him away from all the others for a change, the storyline with Blair just didn't grab me the way I expected it, too. At least he was pretty to look at. I did, however, like him telling Weaver that he was leaving and he could be paged. I'm glad he's also standing his ground with her for a change. All in all, this eppy just fell short of what I had hoped for.

Lubasha Visnjic: Mimi1970 Member (10/20/05 11:18 pm) I liked this episode. I dont really think that hard about ER now , I either like or not. This eppie I liked. I liked Blair, she made Luka smile and then she's gone, Im kind of dissapointed because she is the type of woman I could see him with but now she's gone. I liked Clemente he does add energy to the show but he could take it down a notch. All in all a good eppie and much better than last week.

Lubasha Visnjic: three chords Member (10/20/05 11:20 pm) I'm liking Clemente. I feel I should qualify that with the following: I wouldn't want him to be my boss and I think he is too brash to be an effective manager because some people will never respond positively to his style. But we're not talking about real life, it's a TV show and to that end, he's entertaining and he's interesting and doesn't make me want to flip the channel. As far as guest arcs, he and Eve are good additions so far. Maybe even better than good. Okay, Dubenko is creepy and he just strikes me like this dirty old man who ogles women in the food court of a shopping mall. And why the hell is Abby telling other people about his disgusting offer anyway? It's not funny, it's gross and juvenile and may we never hear of it again. Luka and Blaire were fine but I found it a bit OTT. She was interesting as a character and I loved Luka's genuine smile, what a beautiful sight to see. I think the resolution of the storyline, if that's what you want to call it fell flat. Now what?

Lubasha Visnjic: mackiaveli Member (10/20/05 11:54 pm) As always I enjoyed Neela. Parminder is a wonder. Morris adds humor & energy. So I also think there should have been a bit more Morris. I was indifferent to Abby. Luka & the coma patient was a decent if unrealistic story. It was decent, but it did lack oomph. I don’t cotton to the character of Olivia either & think the actress is lethargic. Pratt & Oliva had zero chemistry. I think Ray banging chicks is to set up his arc with the jailbait girl in upcoming episodes. Clemente was the one who brought the energy, spark, and tension in this episode. Clemente indeed energize the episode & the other characters. Leguizamo is a fine addition to the series based on his performance tonight. I’m hopeful that he will continue to add spice, sharpness, & energy to the series. Overall this episode was MILES better than last week. I enjoyed it & was not bored out of my skull. So far I think this is one of the best episodes of this short season. After tonight I’m more hopeful about November sweeps playing out well.

Lubasha Visnjic: Freyalise Member (10/21/05 2:33 am) Speaking as a Dubenko fan--I hate hate hate hate it. I love Morris.

Lubasha Visnjic: fairydust13 Luka's Kurva Nurse (10/21/05 7:41 am) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I really like CLemente. Really. I love the energy that he brings and his no holds bar attitude. Love it. This Dubenko plot is just gross. LO must be horrified that this is what he has been dealt. As far as Abby blabbing her mouth to anyone about it? - I thought it was a comment to just Luka. Did I miss something? Who else did it bug that when Abby was having her mammogran that she wasn't in the right position. Anytime I have had one one of my arms is always up. The Luka/Blair thing really fell flat with me. The upside was that he was absolutely gorgeous to look at. And if I had awoke from a coma after six years and saw that - I would have sworn I had died and gone to heaven.

Lubasha Visnjic: MarcySue Member (10/21/05 8:44 am) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I really enjoyed this episode. I certainly didn't find the breast cancer message to be "laughable" but I will admit that I did wonder about Abby's positioning at the machine. I'll go out on a limb here and say that we were supposed to see Abby as actually being her age. She's around 40 and has an immediate family history of breast cancer. She's been ignoring the issue and now she's addressing it. I think that's the message we were supposed to get. If some women react by contacting their doctor to get a mammogram, then isn't that a good thing? If they don't need it, their doctor will explain that to them and set them on an appropriate course of action. If they do need one, their doctor will give them the paperwork. I'm not seeing how ER has done any harm here and, in fact, has probably done a little bit of good. I would imagine that most doctors would welcome the chance to discuss the situation with their patients even if what triggered the discussion was the patient asking for something they didn't need at the moment. I thought the actress playing Blair was very good especially in the scene where she was starting to remember what happened. The scenes at the end with Pratt/Olivia and Ray/Zoe ticked me off because I wanted them to get back to Blair so I could see if she woke up. I suspect, though, that we'll never hear about it again. I'll also second the comment about the actress playing Olivia. She is adding nothing to the show. MP is a good actor. He needs to be paired with someone who can keep up with him. Finally, I think JL did a great job of hitting the ground running with his character. He was very believable as a doctor but he still brought to the table a lot of the personality his is known for. I think I'm going to have a bit of a love/hate relationship with the character and that's fine because it will make it interesting.

Lubasha Visnjic: psychdoc11 Member (10/21/05 9:04 am) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm not a big Abby fan but I thought the comment she made to Luka was appropriate. She didn't go into great detail about Dubenko's situation. It was the kind of remark made between close friends and given the fact that Abby would have been completely wigged out by the entire situation, I can see her wanting to vent it to someone. Like it or not, she and Luka have a long, intimate history together. That's why Luka confided in her what had transpired between Sam and him during the breakup. Really now that Carter is gone, she is his only true friend in the ER. As for Clemente, I like him and what he brings to the show but the intro was a little over the top. Was the point to make it seem as if the entire ER staff was completely incompetent? He corrected every diagnosis of every doctor. It is a wonder the place was able to function before he arrived. But I like the snarks and the humor. Not as good as Romano but those are big shoes to fill.

Lubasha Visnjic: YeahSure Member (10/21/05 11:06 am) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The show was better than last week, that's for sure. I like JL. Good energy, nice shake up. Why must we see Ray screwing another girl? He is awful. I wish he would take his robotic voice and go elsewhere. I liked Luka scenes with Blair, except that I kept wondering what his motivation was in spending all this time with her. I thought that bit of info was lacking. Abby's comments to Luka about Dubenko didnt' bother me at all. If I had been propositioned in that manner, you can damn well bet I'd tell someone. It's pretty bizarre all the way around. And she didn't go into anything about Dubenko, his condition, etc. She just made an off-hand comment. ETA: I think this was the episode where Abby was supposed to put her hand on Luka's shoulder. But the entire scene was set up so Abby and Luka were on opposite sides of Blaire in the trauma room, not close enough for touching.

Lubasha Visnjic: legaleagle1 Member (10/21/05 12:08 pm) JL brought the energy, and I think having him around will make an interesting contrast with Luka. One is obsessed with gadgetry, the other is constantly trying to show the residents how to do things without the gadgets. Luka wants them to connect with the patients, Clemente wants them to be more efficient. Both valid viewpoints, both can be taken to extremes, and they are setting up an interesting conflict more like Mark/Kerry than Carter/Luka. I like. "Dr. Lewis will never be here again"---beautiful words, even though they could have been said last week and spared us even a mention of her. Hopefully, she will never be mentioned again. I don't think Abby told Luka anything about Dubenko other than the concubine remark, his expression was too puzzled by it. It seems to me a bit early for the Dubenko fans to be talking about the writers having him do things that are out of character. We haven't seen enough of him IN character to say that yet. Luka was lovely with Blair. Story did not grab me; should have been at least another episode longer so we could see clearly why he attached to her. Nice to have Kerry around again. Die, Ray. If we are supposed to believe Pratt is in love with Olivia, they damned well need to recast her. An actress that seems like she's awake most of the time should be an absolute minimum standard.

Lubasha Visnjic: bunjies Posted: Oct 21 2005, 10:34 AM I like the relationship between Luka and the coma girl. I hope she wakes up. Its so great. The whole sotry sort of sad though, great ER drama. I though it was a good epeisode i liked this weaver quote "Im off to the weaver lounge, dont bother me unless theres a meteor hit" Its a great line!

Lubasha Visnjic: ERLuvr7 Posted: Oct 21 2005, 11:14 AM I thought the eppy was good! Got some good laughs and the drama involving the comatose woman! I think Abby said it best when she said to Kerry "is that it?" when talking about Susan not coming back! I think it caught everyone by surprise. I think Luka will be the new chief. He HAS to be!!! He kinda, sorta gets along w/ Kerry and she likes him. Dr. Clemente was funny but he needs to slow down a bit. Talk about making an impression!! LOL!! I think he'll be an assett to County and I can't wait until he butts heads with Eve (who it TWICE his size). Also, I was wondering what happened to him during his stay at Jacoby "in the Bronx". Kerry said she didn't want a repeat of that. What was exactly "that"? Did I miss it or did they not mention it! Morris, what can I say? What a joke!!!! LOL! His lines are terribly funny but what an incompetent boob!! LOVED that Kerry was on! THANK YOU TPTB!!! She's still the Chief!

Lubasha Visnjic: the.one.&.only.Luka Posted: Oct 21 2005, 12:59 PM I Loved this episode! They took Luka out of his element in a way, by putting him with the patient the entire time, he was happier. I loved when she asked if she could go on the other side, and he said " I shouldn't even have you out of your room" and she said something along the lines of please, and he said" No" i thought it was so funny how he said it. He seemed to be getting along fine with everything. I think they are setting up for Luby 2. Abby realizing she wants a family, mainly stability, and getting a mammogram. Things she set aside for so long, now she realizes she wants. The connection between her and Luka is remarkable, they have great on screen chemistry, whether they are dating or not. Its only a matter of time until they put them together. As far as Dr. Clemente, very funny. A Romano type doctor, with humor, but also has a reason for what he does. All in All great episode, bits or humor, with drama added. I loved it

Lubasha Visnjic: LoveSeason10 Posted: Oct 21 2005, 02:10 PM I liked the way that NBC kept promoting this episode so that more people would try to watch ER, and I thought that this was the best episode of the season. However, because of all the promotion, I expected the episode to be more exciting than it turned out. I thought that it would be as exciting as some of the Season 1 -5 episodes, and it really wasn't. I thought that Leguizamo was interesting and he gave a good performance, but overall the episode did maintain the energy that he projected. The episode featured a cancer patient/Abby storyline that I think has been done more effectively in other episodes (like Susan and the boy with leukemia). Luka and his comatose patient could have been interesting, but I think that the end to that storyline became predictable about 2 minutes into it, when her regular physician says that she may suffer a relapse into coma if she learns about the details of her accident too soon. Which is, of course, exactly what happens. I also thought the conversation she had with Luka over lunch could have been more interesting. On the plus side, Goran looked very nice in that scene. The whole Susan storyline was a bit awkward for me. Mainly, because after Kerry makes the announcement that Susan is going to work in Iowa City, Abby asks Kerry if that is definite? Hadn't ER shown us a Susan and Abby who were the best of friends in the ER since Seasons 8-11??? It seems odd that Susan and Abby wouldn't have spoken before Susan spoke to Kerry. But whatever, at least we know now exactly where Susan is and what she's doing.

Starley: А что они пациентку из комы вывели, а потом....? Зачем?

Lubasha Visnjic: ashmo Posted: Oct 21 2005, 03:39 PM I too thought this was the best episode of the Season. Loved all the one- liners Weaver: maybe I should stay down here Leguizamo: No, go me and Dr. Kaborkian( Pratt) can handle it Leguizamo: you guys aren't even doctors Pratt: that never stopped Morris Neela: he's hot (talking about Clemente) Abby: I thought you had a boyfrien Neela: he's at war and so are hormones Loved that Abby got her mammogram, nice to see a little Luby moments but not too much. I liked the Blaire and breast cancer story Did anyone see how happy Luka seemed talking with Blaire. I liked the actress who played Blaire she did a good job. Pratt should give his father a little chance So tired of seeing Ray get laid Great to see Kerry for a while. She kind of told Clemente who's who. Kind of disappointed not see Sam as much. I didn't think Abby would actually call the "therapist" for Debenko either, too wierd Excellent, energized episode.

Lubasha Visnjic: strausser Posted: Oct 21 2005, 07:11 PM my several favorite moments of this epi: - when abby crashed into luka and told him how dubenko tried to make her his concubine - the hormone boyfriend conversation neela had with abby - luka and blaire's interactions - sam sticking the poster with her chewing gum - abby's reaction when the pharmacist was giving her slow responses - clemente helps ray with the tablet pc and something i found annoying... - i have seen way to many bed scenes of ray and an unknown girl... - pratt has to give his dad a break! i also like that song in the end! can someone identify it? by the way, anyone notice abby's got a new lab coat?

Lubasha Visnjic: Susan (Not a Look Alike) Posted: Oct 21 2005, 07:27 PM I had never seen John Leguizamo in anything before, so I was skeptical how well a comedian would do in this type of role. I am impressed! His entrance was unforgetable (posing as a patient). His sharp, snappy one liners were great! Funny, sarcastic but obviously very intelligent and up-to-date on the medical world's most recent news and gadgets. It was fun watching the staff's interaction and reaction to him - almost like they were in shock (at least at first). I hope many viewers watched this show - the revitalization of ER. I look forward to the rest of Leguizamo's eppys. But TPTB did "tweak" with us regarding Kerry's line about "what happened at Newark" and "Don't let it happen here". Hmmmm.... The storyline with Luka and the former comatose patient was very touching. I loved their interaction (I've never seen Luka laugh and smile so much - wonderful!). But it was so sad when she unexpectedly slipped back into a coma. I agree with the posters who said they wished she would wake up again and that the actress who played her was excellent. I thought I was a Luby 2 but I can foresee more bickering before TPTB let them calm down to a mature relationship. I think Luka and the former comatose woman had a wonderful rapport and would have made a great couple. Both had experienced terrible losses, and I have kind of changed my mind in that I think it would be nice for the characters to have love lives with people out of the hospital/medical environment. The storyline with the woman who had the double mastectomy surprisingly turned out to be nice. The lab wasn't sure she even had cancer and her new boyfriend was persistent enough to show the patient that he cared about her, even after her operation. Nice way to showcase that October is "Breast Cancer Awareness Month". I only have one small (personal) gripe about that. Breast cancer is down the line in numer of fatalities compared to other cancers which never get publicity because they are socially distasteful or embarrassing. There is no publicity and public campaigns about the type of cancer I had. Sorry - I'll get off my soap box before I get hurt. I hope Danny Glover and Pratt can get connected (that Pratt can get over his bitterness and gain a family). A couple pretty "hot" scenes near the end with Pratt and Olivia and Ray and his groupie. Morris was his usual incompetent self (how'd he ever get through medical school?) but Scott Grimes is so funny - he's great comic relief for the show. Regarding my feelings about the way TPTB "dismissed" Susan, just check out my signature. Well, surpise! I'm done. Do I hear a sigh of relief? Hopefully I didn't repeat anyone else too much. "Susan has now left the building."

Lubasha Visnjic: waves39 Posted: Oct 21 2005, 07:37 PM "Just like that?" Just like that. TPTB have severed the last of the loose ends pertaining to Susan, and have finished the last of the worst write-off ever. Well, good luck to you Sherry, in whatever it is that you left ER for. I liked the way they introduced Dr. Clemente. He wasn't all too impressed with what he saw, but I'm sure over the next few weeks, he's going to ruffle a few feathers making the changes he finds necessary. Ray better finish that toxicology elective soon, because Victor is like a more mature version of him. (the PSP playing in the hallway was a dead giveaway.) In the one brief scene they had together, they seemed to click. Is it safe to say that Weaver's back? She was being, well, Weaver. It's the third time on ER that they're looking for a new ER chief. With Weaver at the helm once more, it'll be interesting to see who gets the job. Since John leguizamo is only coming for a few episodes, and luka's the only other attending, I'm pretty sure he's getting the job. I'm glad they followed up more on the coma patient. They spent very little time on the subject last week. This time around, we got to learn a little more about her background. however, after six years, you would think the docs at county would know by now not to tell Luka anything that you dont want the patient to know. It's nice to know that Morris actually has some medical knowledge. he just has to work on using it when there's a trauma patient bleeding all over him. I wonder how he can talk with his lips permanently sealed to someone's ass all the time. Abby's storyline was starting to go the way of Neela's AMA leave pretty quickly. Luckily, she turned it around. I was pleased with this storyline. You truly don't know the pain of breast cancer until it hits you or someone you love. Hats off to Abby for getting the mammogram. As much as Pratt wants to get as far away from his father as possible, he needs to remember that he was the one tht knocked on charlie's door first. Come to terms with pops, and move on. This storyline's living off a feeding tube. And of course, no interaction with Pratt would be complete without a 'holla back' ~Random Thoughts~ -"Helga, the therapist from hell": i have one of those, except her name is Ula -'get laid , morris" man, do i feel sorry for the girl that gets drunk enough to do that. Obviously the drum pickup line isnt going to work -That pre-med student beared a striking resemblance to Steve Urkel -Those poor RN's. Even without Eve around, she manages to make their lives miserable. -That druggie patient's laugh was creepy -Looks like everything worked out downstairs with Lucian. Maybe Blair couldve run into him at one point or another. -Speaking of Blari, does Luka always have his top 3 buttons undone when he's talking to someone recently out of a coma? -Good idea guys. Ditch morris while he reminices about his drumline days. The Look of the week: The staff at the desk, staring back at Weaver when she announced Susan's departure.
